Members of the unions representing 14,500 U.S.-based passenger service employees at Fort Worth-based American Airlines (Nasdaq: AAL) have approved a new five-year contract that includes immediate, significant pay raises, the company said in a news release.

Details of the new agreement with the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters weren’t immediately available.

"Our passenger service employees have played a critical role in the integration of our airline and we rely on them to give our customers the best service in the industry," Kerry Philipovitch, American Airlines Senior Vice President – Customer Experience, said in the release. "We could not be more pleased to provide compensation that reflects their contributions toward the airline's success. This agreement is a huge step in making us truly one combined team, and we thank the CWA-IBT for their professionalism in advocating for their members.”

The unions said the vote was 6,993 in favor and 2,522 against. The negotiated wages will appear in employees’ paycheck of Dec. 24, the unions said.

Wasn't this relatively fast?

And shouldn't this have brought the American and USAir/America West folks all under one contract?

Getting things combined means the company can grow and the employees know where they all stand, in regards to pay, seniority, etc.

American has begun advertising like crazy...TV, print, billboards and I've seen a few online.
