Ted Cruz lashes out: ‘The overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats’

Source: Raw Story

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused news outlets of covering up what he described as violent tendencies among Democrats.

“Here’s the simple and undeniable fact. The overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats,” Cruz told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “The media doesn’t report that.”

Cruz did not cite any data to back up his accusation, instead repeating the conservative talking point criticizing President Barack Obama for nominating attorney Debo Adegbile last year to lead the Justice Department’s civil rights division because Adebbile represented Mumia Abu-Jamal while working for the NAACP in 1981. Adegbile’s nomination was blocked.

Hewitt made reference to Saturday’s terrorist attack against a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado by noting his own opposition to reproductive rights over the past 25 years.

crimes. I worked in corrections for almost thirty years and my sense of the general attitude of inmates is that of vengefulness and unforgiveness. Both traits of conservative people, whether they acknowledge it or not. This of course is not an absolute, but given the experience of working directly with inmates over those years tells me it is more true than not. Cruz's allegation seems more projection fueled by desperation than reality.

I worked in the court system. I was a court reporter in big city courts, both civil and criminal, for 20 years. Before that I was a legal secretary for my dad. So I haven't seen the inside of the police and corrections systems.

And criminals tend to get more favors if they adopt the overwhelmingly Christian culture promoted in the prison system. Prisoners of other religions or no religion tend to have to sue to get their religious practices accommodated.

His implication is obnoxious and bigoted, and it is crazy to use that to double down on the misinformation he is pushing on the Planned Parenthood murderer, but there's data to support the statement about criminals being mostly Democrats.

"Those ex-felons who are registered overwhelmingly register as Democrats. Of those discharge records that match to at least one voter file record, 61.5 percent match only to Democratic voter records. In contrast, 25.5 percent match only to voter records with no affiliation or an affiliation with a minor party, while 9 percent match only to Republican voter records."

is because it's simply a lie. FBI statistics demonstrate that whites account for about 70% of all crime and blacks account for about 28%. Even assuming all blacks are Dems and only 50% of whites are Republicans still makes the highest percentage of criminals based on race and political affiliation white Republicans.

Cruz is a liar, all Republicans are liars. Lyiing scum should not be allowed to run for office in this country.

If 50% of white criminals are Republican, that makes them around 35% of all criminals being Republican. (.50 * 70% crimals being white) That leaves 35% of the white criminals as Democrats + 28% black criminals for a total of = 63% of criminals being Democratic

I consider batterers violent criminals, but they don't end up serving as much jail time as someone (particularly a poor minority) who assaults someone with whom they're not in an intimate relationship.

I also suspect Republican men are just as likely to commit date, marital, and stranger rape to the same degree as Democrats, but doubt they get prosecuted to the same degree.

Cruz made a true statement: more violent criminals do identify as Democrats. The studies are something like 70+%.

The lie is the implication (based on stupidity of Republicans) that most Democrats are violent criminals, which is false. Cruz is very clever that way -- tell a true fact in a vacuum for a false implication.

As an aside, the fact that an overwhelming preponderance of felons who served their time and are released are Democratic voters is why I worked much of my career to restore felons' ability to vote. With their vote, several borderline states could easily be in the blue column forever.
