New York activist Lori Berenson, who was convicted 20 years ago of helping leftist rebels who were trying to seize lawmakers in Peru, is finally heading home.
Berenson, 46, still insists she was never part of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement plot in 1995.
But her treason conviction left her stuck in Peru even after her 2010 parole because she was barred from leaving the country until her 20-year sentence ended, which just happened Sunday.
Next stop for Berenson and her 6-year-old son is her parents Manhattan home, but she said she would keep mum about her travel plans to avoid being mobbed by reporters.

Ms Berenson will be returning to a very changed culture.
