Israel PM admits forces operating in war-hit Syria

Source: AFP

Jerusalem (AFP) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted for the first time Tuesday that Israeli forces have been operating in Syria, where the Iran-backed regime is battling rebels including the jihadist Islamic State.

"We occasionally carry out operations in Syria to prevent that country from becoming a front against us," Netanyahu told reporters during a visit to northern Israel.

"We also do everything to prevent weapons, particularly lethal ones, being moved from Syria to Lebanon," he added.

Netanyahu did not provide further details and his comments were the first public recognition that Israel has been active in conflict-riddled Syria.

It took decades, including sending to prison for decades a whistleblower, before they came clean about their nuclear weapons.

I don't think people understand how small this area is.

Be like a war in the Bronx and you govern East Tremont. You'd check, too.

that Israel has been helping al-Nusra fighters based in the Golan Heights and providing them with medical care, people were calling me a "conspiracy theorist" and all sorts of names.

Netanyahu only touched on the bare surface of Israel's involvement with the jihadists fighting to topple the Syrian government. His country has been largely silent on the ISIS threat (which the rest of the world is obviously interested in) for a good reason - Israel would rather see the religious fanatics of ISIS take over next door than the secular, stable government of Assad remaining in power. Their former ambassador, Michael Oren, said so.

But don't take my word for it - I'm just a tinfoil hat-wearing kook.

There are thousands of mercenaries all over the planet who are selling themselves to the highest bidder.
Some of them are organized under contractors, some of them are "free agents" so to speak.
Just as ISIS is recruiting among radical Muslims from over the globe.

Has two factions involved:

Turkmen supporters

ISIS supporters (including possibly Ergoden's son)

It's fractured upon itself.
