Texas revives attempt to block Syrian refugees from entering state

Texas state officials are once again trying to block Syrian refugees from entering the state.
Attorney General Ken Paxton, who last week withdrew a request for an emergency court order blocking people from the war-torn country, filed a new request Wednesday.
The request, which had not been expected, specifically asked federal judge David Godbey to block nine refugees set to be placed in Houston on Thursday -- a couple and their six children, as well as a young women seeking to be reunited with her mother.
"Evidence came to light after (a hearing earlier this week) that terrorist organizations have infiltrated the very refugee program that is central to the dispute," wrote Paxton's office, citing a sworn statement by Texas Department of Public Safety Deputy Director Robert Bodisch and a public speech by U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, the chairman of the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee.
