By SEAN MURPHY

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former Oklahoma City police officer was convicted Thursday of 18 of the 36 counts he faced, including four counts of first-degree rape, related to accusations that he victimized 13 women on his police beat in a minority, low-income neighborhood.

Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, sobbed as the verdict was read aloud. He could spend the rest of his life in prison based on the jury's recommendations, which include a 30-year sentence on each of the first-degree rape counts. Among the other charges he was convicted of were forcible oral sodomy, sexual battery and second-degree rape.

The jury, which deliberated for about 45 hours over four days, recommended he serve a total of 263 years in prison. The judge will decide later whether he will have to serve the sentences consecutively.

Holtzclaw's mother, father and sister were in the courtroom as the verdict was read. At least one accuser was present, as well as several black community leaders. Seven armed deputies were stationed around the room.

3. Found guilty on 18 out of 36 charges with a total of 263

years recommended. He was found guildty on 4 out of 6 1st degree rape charges with a recommendation of 30 years for each guilty charge. Today is his 29th birthday. The reporters did not know if the time would be served consecutive or concurrent. His sentencing is scheduled for January 21, 2016.

He broke down and just sobbed as the jury's verdicts were read. It was hard to watch but he is responsible for what he did. All I could think of is that they should put him on suicide watch. His life is so over.

There was a lot of fear that justice would not be served because there were no African Americans on the jury and the guy was a cop. Given the length of deliberation it looks like the jurors took their job seriously and examined every charge. The fact that there was a mixture of guilty and not guilty verdicts should make the community okay with the results.

Several were probably related to the woman who showed up high
According to one news report one of the victims tested positive for PCP, but the prosecutor allowed her to testify

I'm glad they convicted him and recommended that many years
Hopefully he'll serve most of the sentence

I would have enjoyed watching him cry and break down...and if he is put on suicide watch, maybe they'll miss it!!!

He deserves everything he's going to get, what he did was heinous and he did it because he thought as cop he was above the law!!!

But I hope he does not commit suicide. I want him to cry and rot for the rest of his miserable life.

I think if a cop is convicted of anything, the sentence should automatically be doubled for betraying the public trust & abusing authority. With no parole.

The arrogance is breathtaking.

Happy birthday, asshole!

betraying the public trust & abusing authority. With no parole."

YES - I have been saying that for a while now. Not only should cops not be getting away with horrible crimes, as they have been forever, but they should be vigorously prosecuted. And if convicted, the usual sentence should be doubled or tripled - these people are hired to serve the public, and are paid with taxpayer dollars. A criminal cop's betrayal of the public trust is huge, and should be punished as such.

14. I do believe that he must face the consequences of his actions.

There is no doubt about that. I had not really pay too much attention to the reporting on this case but did watch the verdict come in. Isaw a young man who totally fucked up his life and the fact that he did so as a police officer makes it even worse. He totally violated his mission statement to protect and serve the public. What sympathy I have goes to his family. His parents will live the rest of their lives wondering how their son went to wrong.

For four years, I worked at a medical clinic serving the homeless, among whom were drug addicts, mental health patients, and prostitutes. Every day spent helping them and trying to make their lives a little better was an honor and a privilege. This guy preying on the helpless and defenseless deserves a cold, dank dungeon for the rest of his life.

Maybe now he'll have the time and opportunity to regain a shred of his by-now twisted and perverted humanity...

Having to decide guilt and sentencing on 36 charges is tedious and mind numbing. Hope this creep spends the rest of his life in a cell.
