At least 41 dead in Argentina police bus accident

Source: AFP

BUENOS AIRES - At least 41 people died and several more injured when a bus carrying police officers drove off a bridge in Argentina, a local mayor said.

The cause of the predawn accident, in which the bus with 60 police officers aboard plunged some 15 meters (50 feet) into a dry riverbed, was unclear, said Gustavo Solis, mayor of Rosario de la Frontera in northern Salta province.

Some people remain trapped in the wreckage of the bus and the death toll could rise, he said.

The bus was part of a caravan of three carrying police. For reasons still unknown, the driver lost control of the bus as it started to cross a bridge and it tumbled into the riverbed, police said in a statement.

3. It does - especially when you learn that the victims were sent there on a political mission.

From Página/12 today:

Security Minister Patricia Bullrich confirmed that the officers killed in the tragedy had been mobilized to Jujuy Province on her orders to suppress protests Governor Gerardo Morales feared for tomorrow as a result of what may be a highly unpopular announcement.

In other words, the fascist new President (Mauricio Macri) had his alcoholic rottweiler (Patricia Bullrich) send shock troops (which Macri habitually used to violently squelch protests while mayor of Buenos Aires) to crack open the heads of anyone who gave his elitist ally (Governor Morales) a hard time for announcing austerity measures; but then the overloaded bus that Bullrich crammed them in blew a tire and careened into the riverbed, killing 41+.

And the kicker is, these cretins actually sleep like babies at night.

4. Looks as if Macri's in a hurry to reactivate the Dirty War against dissent.

I was wondering why so many police would be jammed together in a bus.

Now we know!

Thanks for sharing the information.

Three buses, 150 Gendarmes in all!

At the risk of making light of this horrific tragedy (43 young families in Santiago del Estero who are now without a father), I'm just glad that fascist old lush, Patricia Bullrich, wasn't driving one of the other two buses. In all seriousness, she should be impeached for having ordered 150 Gendarmes to quash a protest when they're always needed elsewhere - especially because it resulted in 43 deaths.

He're the old girl, presumably after a few shots, screaming profanities at President Cristina Kirchner during her last State of the Union address.

6. Looking good, as usual. I've seen photoshops and cartoons of her pointing out her boozing problem!

Probably has to stay drunk so she doesn't have to think about how rotten the world she has chosen for herself really is. You can't get lower than supporting the party which tortured and murdered over 30,000 of your countrymen for their political views.

That IS as low as a person can get.

All those cops descending in one place, all at once. Looks as if they thought if they cut loose and put the fear of gawd in the people soon enough, they'd be too afraid to try anything big when the future is unrolled before them.

The fascists did a pretty good job of eliminating dissent not that long ago. My god, they are dirty.

Even Kissinger, their US confidant/supporter is still alive.

Of course, in Argentina she's best known for her short, year-long stint (2001) as Labor Minister under the corrupt and catastrophic Fernando de la Rúa administration. In it, she tried to dissolve Argentina's 'Medicare' (PAMI) and was the author of the infamous decree signed by de la Rúa that cut 13% from all public employee, pension, and assistance checks (amid 40% inflation).

After what just happened (not to mention the Manfroni appointment) she should add a nice, long impeachment hearing to that.

Tragedies are always sad, but to me they are even sadder during the holiday season. I think of their families getting the news and of children whose mother or father will never get home.

May they all rest in peace.
