Nigerian Islamic court sentences cleric to death

Source: Time of India

KANO: An Islamic court in Kano, northern Nigeria, has sentenced a Muslim cleric to death for blasphemy against Islam's holiest figure, the Prophet Muhammad, prosecutors and justice officials said on Tuesday.

"The sharia court found Abdul Nyass guilty of blasphemy against the prophet, which is punishable with death in accordance with the provisions of the sharia legal system Kano state operates," prosecutor Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki told AFP. "The convict had legal representation throughout the trial which was done in secret to avoid a repeat of the mob action that disrupted a court session on the case."

Sharia Courts seem to pass death sentences very easily.

Because we are first at being worst.

Since America and Americans have done bad things as well, then we cannot criticize anyone else in the world, no matter how wrong what they are doing may seem.

top 3.

According to Mother Jones reporting Amnesty International 2014 data, China leads and executes more than the rest of the world combined. (The number is a State Secret in the PRC - Amnesty estimates thousands)

Then

289 #2 Iran
90 #3 Saudi Arabia
61 #4 Iraq
35 #5 United States

The article doesn't discuss on ISIL and Wiki has ISIL over 160. I'll speculate that it may not be a nation for these reports or that their "executions" may be characterized as murders.

I also didn't see North Korea but Wiki has them at 50+.

If counted, they would bump the US to #7.

Amnesty did not have those numbers from the US or the other countries.

"Official" Unemployment Rate. The inherent weakness of this figure is that it looks like a stronger economy when the Labor Force Participation Rate decreases. In November 2015 U3 was 4.8% or 5.0% when seasonably adjusted.

To include consideration of factors with respect to the Labor Force Participation Rate, the better measure would be the U6 - Total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force. I believe this is the rate that Senator Sanders calls the "Real" Unemployment Rate. For November 2015, U6 is reported at 9.6% or 9.9% when seasonably adjusted.

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t15.htm

The age 16 and over labor force participation rate stands at 62.5%.

It's likely that the BLS numbers are reasonably accurate. Their validity requires ensuring that like measures are compared and characterized properly.

Manslaughter implies an accident, or negligence, or conduct regardless of life. Generally these would not be considered murder. An execution, however, is premeditated murder that is (for some crazy reason) sanctioned by the state. Murder of any kind should not be legal. Making exceptions for the government to murder is not the way to a more peaceful society.

I presume most of the N. Nigerian Muslims are not Sufi (which is the only branch of Islam that seems like it has any fun). Bokos are Haram, after all. I'd love to know exactly what he said about Muhammad, and who ratted him our for saying it.

Nigeria should stop building their Sharia courts out of flammable materials.

Mr Inyass is a preacher at a local faction of the Tijaniya sect, founded in Senegal by Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, which has a large following across West Africa.

He was reported to have said that "Niasse was bigger than Prophet Muhammad" during a lecture at an event in May, leading to violent protests in the city.
