Newton, Panthers rout Cardinals, 49-15 for NFC title
Source: MSN Sports
Superman is headed for the Super Bowl.
He's taking the Carolina Panthers with him.
Cam Newton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others, and Carolina's big-play defense stifled the league's top-ranked offense in a 49-15 romp Sunday for the NFC championship. It was the most points for a winner of an NFC title game.
The NFL's new top man at quarterback -- Newton is an All-Pro this season -- will lead the Panthers against five-time MVP Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in two weeks.

(2,868 posts)...the taste of sour grapes in the morning. But, I confess I have tuned out a bit since the Washington Team bounced out in Wildcard. I am actually excited by this game. The old man straining for his legacy and a young man being amazed and humble at his success.
I will, however, give you awesome props for using the phase 'couldn't care less' (instead of the increasingly more common 'I could care less') properly.
Feeling the Bern
(3,839 posts)More like realism. The teams I don't like are out. The team I support is also out. Why should I support two teams in the Super Bowl I couldn't honestly care less about out.
If one of the teams I hated made it in, I would care to be happy if they lost. If my team was in, I'd support them completely.
So there is no sour grapes, Mr. or Ms. Aloof and Haughty. There's complete indifference.

I have a question. Why do we have to wait two weeks for the Superbowl? Is there a reasonable reason or is it just for the extra hype time?

(24,329 posts)In the 80's there were complaints (justifiably so in some cases) that two weeks allowed for injuries to heal a little longer
According to ESPN, Carolina has two defensive players go out in the game and Allen didn't play
An extra week gives them a chance to eligible and players that are nursing injuries (in theory) are less likely to get hurt during the Super Bowl

(3,424 posts)That makes sense. This is a very tough sport. Ah, I loved the 80's. I've lived in S.F. Bay Area all my life and it was football heaven here then.

(2,868 posts)...the allegations leveled at Peyton for illegal substance use and the fact Cam Newton is well regarded as one of the nicest guys in the league....doubt you will hear much of that. I would bet most folks will be rooting for Cam Netwon...know I will be.
But....I did get your subtle insinuation

(1,727 posts)I don't know what circles you're in, but I'm aware of a lot of people with irrational anger directed towards Newton. Any time that I've made the mistake of turning on sports talk radio this season, I've heard a bunch of complaining non-stop about how "arrogant" Newton is.

(9,350 posts)I wonder if they say things like that when Rob Gronkowski scores. I do believe Gronkowski spikes the ball and dances just about every time he scores a touchdown. In addition, I think I have seen Tom Brady and Peyton Manning show emotion when they throw touchdowns and make great plays. Granted they most likely do it less than Cam Newton, but they do many of the same things Newton does.
Just to let you know my comments are not directed at you. They are directed at the comments make by the people in your post.

Frankly, Newton doesn't help his cause with the showboating. I wouldn't say he's arrogant, but he is a showboater. If you're a Panther fan, it probably feels just like harmless fun. If the Panthers are beating your team, it doesn't.
Are the dates next to the addresses the dates of the Tweets? because if so, they're after the Divisional round, or years old.

(1,727 posts)He showboats, but his shtick seems to be way more lighthearted than malicious. It certainly isn't anything bad enough to warrant the kind of vitriol that you see from fans of other teams.
I honestly wish that my existence was carefree enough to get angry at pro-athlete for such a trivial reason.

(33,345 posts)I am a Seahawks fan. I do not like Newton, and I never will. I know he's having fun, but I prefer my QBs to celebrate sans shtick.
And I'm sure Panther's fans don't like Wussell Wilson, with all the scrambling, the God-talk, and the repeated football clichés.
