(21,795 posts)the sadistic TV game show host who replied to Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in that famous quote:
"Ben Richards": I'll be back!
"Damon Killian": Only in a re-run.
and for this:
". . .This is television, that's all it is. It has nothing to do with people, it's to do with ratings! For fifty years, we've told them what to eat, what to drink, what to wear... for Christ's sake, Ben, don't you understand? Americans love television. They wean their kids on it. Listen. They love game shows, they love wrestling, they love sports and violence. So what do we do? We give 'em *what they want*! We're number one, Ben, that's all that counts, believe me. I've been in the business for thirty years. . ."
Rest In Peace, Richard Dawson.

(17,863 posts)He was the star of the show in my opinion - much more interesting than the Arnie character.
He was the highlight of the movie.

(1,470 posts)back in the late 70's.
For ten years,I worked at the corner of 57th St & 6th, or, as we called it, "the center of the universe" because of all the stars and famous people you'd see. All the Networks are down just a few blocks, and a lot of nice hotels just north. Of everyone I saw, no one made a bigger scene on the street as Richard Dawson. He literally stopped traffic on 6th! People were hanging out their car windows waving and screaming "Richard!", "Richard!", and people surrounding him on the sidewalk in adulation. I saw alot of big stars, but I never saw anything like that.
RIP Richard.
