LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin's administration is asking a judge to penalize a Louisville Planned Parenthood facility for performing abortions without a valid license.
Bevin, a staunchly anti-abortion Republican, ordered abortions halted at the downtown facility after learning last month that it was performing the procedures. Bevin was outraged over the news, saying the facility has shown "brazen disregard" for the law.
Planned Parenthood says it got approval to begin performing abortions before former Gov. Steve Beshear's administration left office in December.
The state's Cabinet for Health and Family Services sued Thursday in Jefferson County Circuit Court, seeking nearly $700,000 in fines against Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, which is based in Indianapolis

(10,056 posts)Hopefully that State Democratic party will wake the fuck up and run actual campaigns with good candidates instead of the Repub-lite candidates that they keep putting up.

(4,033 posts)I've lived in Ky for 17 years and have voted in every single election and voted Democratic.
Second, there were a lot of indications that the election, that put a Republican asshole in the Gov seat, was fixed (which would not be the first time it has happened here in Ky).

(33,345 posts)the Kentuckians who showed up at the polls and put your governor in office, or put it close enough to fix.
is that specific enough?

(129 posts)Kentucky voters are CAREFUL about government, and NO ONE "enjoys" abortions, even those who find themselves in need of one. Generally speaking, Kentuckians are not "fer them," as if anyone could ever be.
But as usual, the stupids won this round, preferring to pretend as if unapproved sex and unwanted abortions were aberrations for young people.
Sadly, Kentuckians won't approve honest, factual sex ed for their young either, they're stuck with "abstinence-only" sex ed. How blindingly stupid is that? If they don't want abortions, then prevent the need for them. It really is that simple.

(4,973 posts)It doesn't matter how educated and well condomed someone is, pregnancy will happen. It's none of these whackjob religious nut repuglican's business what the patient and the doctor decide is best for their situation. Planned Parenthood is there for other things besides terminating a pregnancy. In some cases, it's the only place a person with limited means has available. The pigs in government need to back off.

(33,345 posts)they believe that Pro-Choice organizations are committing mass murder. they believe that murder of doctors is justified. they hear it from their pulpits every Sunday. they indoctrinate their children (including my 2nd cousins who get shipped to RTL Marches in DC) to believe it.
they are immune to reason, facts, and minding their own business. the Politicians they elect are pledged to end Abortions. legislatures are using the "death by a 1000 cuts" method, and they're winning.
this gets worse before it gets better.

(33,345 posts)but given that the battle is largely at the state level, the feds need to intervene to overturn these laws, and the courts take time.
