Radio host Boortz retiring, with Cain to step in

Source: Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) — Conservative talk radio host Neal Boortz announced his retirement Monday after four decades at the microphone, saying he will be replaced by former GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain.

Boortz said during his morning talk show that his last day will be Jan. 21, 2013, the day of the presidential inauguration. The 67-year-old Boortz said he is in good health and plans to enjoy retirement by traveling with his wife.

"This has been a stress-free job for me. It's just been a total and absolutely joy," he said. "I'm going to miss everything associated with doing a talk radio show."

Boortz's show is syndicated across the country through Atlanta's WSB radio, drawing about 6 million listeners on 230 radio stations.

for 40 years. My aunt use to call him in the late 70's when he was on ring radio. This guy stopped growing intellectually in his twenties. It shows how Atlanta is an intellectual wasteland.

And I do not consider myself part of an intellectual wasteland. Believe it not, there are many intelligent residents here in the Atlanta area, though I have not yet come in contact with them.

When I first moved to Atlanta and happened to be looking for something to listen to on the way to work I came across Boortz' show. I thought to myself (having moved from New York and before that from Seattle) this guy is really off his rocker.

Over the years I will occasionally tune in just to hear what drivel he is spouting and something just to get my blood flowing.

When I first heard Cain on the radio without knowing he had been the CEO of Godfather's Pizza I thought this man doesn't even have a high school education. So when he popped up on the presidential scope I about fell off my chair.

is he is neither funny, ingenious, even the least bit entertaining. He really is a no talent bum and he only made it here because he preys on racism.

This is one of the most conservative cities. there is absolutely no intellectual curiosity here. My kids go to UGA. Some of the frat houses have nooses displayed. Robert E Lee day is very big in Athens.
I have lived in Denver, NY SF and all those cities have diversity of thought. Not Atlanta.

but my brother is an engineer and I was the first of 18 cousins who didn't take engineering. My kids are good in math and one even scored in the 700's in the SAT's. The other was a high 600"s. Unfortunately, engineering is a short term career as far as income. You make a lot when you first graduate but you top out early and as my brother put's it "they eat their own".

It is not a career I would advise anyone to go into. Here is a good rule of thumb. If you are not bringing in revenue(sales, consulting etc.) the watch out in your 50's. Corporations are going to get rid of you.
You better start your own business by 50.

My parents lived in ATL near lakeside High school and I lived near Emory off of Briarcliff Rd. I used to work downtown and remember when St. Joesph's hospital was downtown. I also used to bike out of Bike south on North Decatur rd.
We will be leaving soon when my kids graduate UGA. Even now I only live 10 miles outside of Buckhead due north. My kids went to Norcross high which is pretty close to the city and pretty diverse.

So that kind of kills your argument.

here is a little more of my background.

I sold cosmetics in GA in 1977 and then I moved to Denver. i came back in 1982. Eventually i sold cash registers to restaurants and fast food establishments all over the state. I was only one of the few people who would sell to the Black areas of the city. half my sales was because no one else would go into West end or campbellton Rd. When was the last time you were on campbellton Rd.?

I can get anywhere in Atlanta with just an address. I know the entire city and every neighborhood. I used to be a waiter on Cheshire Bridge road and if you go into almost any DQ in ATL and those are my cash registers. I also sold the cash registers to Chef's cafe if you remember Michael Touhy.
I bet I know this city and it's inhabitants better than you. i have sold cash registers from Stockbridge to Jonesboro to some of the elegant establishments in ATL. i haven't done that in a long time but I know Atlanta.

I have also lived in other cities and compared to Denver this is not a progressive area.

But as a part of National Hate Radio, I imagine that the end effect of the changeover
will to be to replace a rabid dog who froths at the mouth with a circus clown who always
managed to make people laugh, but never really figured out why.
