Updated 10:57 am, Thursday, February 25, 2016

DODGEVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin-based retailer Lands' End is apologizing to customers for featuring feminist Gloria Steinem in its spring catalog and has removed her from its website.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1QG5CMQ ) reports that the company on Tuesday removed a feature on Steinem from its website after customers complained about her support for abortion rights. It issued an apology to customers who were offended Wednesday.

Steinem had been interviewed by company CEO Federica Marchionni for the Lands' End "Legend Series." The company says in a statement that its goal was to feature people who have made a difference, and not to take a political or religious stance.

Land's End was still around.

I bought from them in the early 1990s

Outrageously expensive, high quality, a bit stodgy, though I was never
thrilled with the fabrics or fit, then I lost touch with them, off my radar

They have displays in Sears, who lost a bundle buying and selling the company

They call it "an interview in a recent catalog with Gloria Steinem on her quest for women's equality" - was it actually saying she's right and anyone who opposes her is wrong, or was it just a general "she's a feminist" article? Have the Christian Taliban managed to get an article wiped from existence just for acknowledging there is a feminist point of view?

if I'm right (please someone correct me if I'm wrong), that might have something to do with it.

Anyway, it's depressing no matter what district they're in or what pressure from right-wing voters they face. (The only tiny bright light in this is that someone in the company had the idea to honor Steinem in the first place . . that's something, even if they later caved to political pressure . )
