Ben Carson Officially Drops Out of Presidential Race
Source: Bloomberg
After a string of defeats, Ben Carson officially announced Friday at CPAC that he's suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
"I am leaving the campaign trail," the retired neurosurgeon told the crowd to rousing applause.
"I will continue to be heavily involved in trying to save our nation. We have to save it. And I'll be involved in a lot of different things," he said, including his work with the organization My Faith Votes, and stopping a "secular progressive" from being elected president.
Carson indicated on Wednesday after failing to notch any victories in the first 15 primaries that he did "not see a political path forward in light of last evenings Super Tuesday primary results," although he stopped short of saying he'd dropping out.
In his speech Friday, Carson sounded his usual notes of preserving evangelical Christian values and embracing personal responsibility.

(36,814 posts)If Ben is honest with himself, he will admit that he was just running for the name recognition for future speaking fees.
Keyes, Cain and West are living proof that republicans will not run a black man for Prez.
His campaign family made a fortune with their own companies making money spending much of the donations to raise more money.

(4,651 posts)...why do they all use the term "suspending" their camaign? Suspending implies a a temporary cessation with a possible return. We know these campaigns are ending (at least for this season, right?)

(14,691 posts)as usual, turns out it's all about the Benjamins - http://politicaldictionary.com/words/suspended-campaign/
This is the third paragraph:
"Candidates who suspend their campaigns usually get to keep any delegates theyve won and can continue to raise money beyond whats needed to retire their campaign debts. In contrast, candidates who actually drop out of a race, usually have to forfeit certain delegates and are limited in how they can raise future funds."
