'Extraordinary Turnout' Could Mean Sanders Victory: Maine Democratic Caucus Live Results
Source: Patch.com
Maine voters are deciding between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders during Sunday's caucuses. High turnout so far bodes well for Sanders.
....
Due to what the Maine Democratic Party is calling "extraordinary turnout," voters lining up to caucus in Portland will vote by paper ballot, rather than by caucus, to avoid overcrowding. It's not the only crowded site, according to social media posts. The party is urging that anyone in line wait it out, to ensure their voice is heard.
....
As a result of the crowded caucuses Sunday, one Maine senator plans to put forward a resolution that would change the state's nominating contest to a primary vote, meaning ballots instead of in-person caucuses.
__________
She still gets at least 3 of the 5 supers, though.

(57,936 posts)Hillary did not win ANY pledged delegates in Vermont.

Unfortunately, some of the superdelegates who pledged to Hillary before the primary have not yet moved to Bernie.
It is clear that Vermont voters are close to unanimous in their support for Bernie.

(14,327 posts)stubborn superdelegate.
With Hillary non-viable in Vermont, he still wants to cast for her, against the will of the voters, becasue he knows best. How arrogant. I'm sorry I ever told anyone to vote for him.

(23,970 posts)being head of the DNC once himself, he's been tied pretty tightly to the DNC chair, who clearly has a lot of stake in HRC being the nominee
if Bernie does extremely well going forward and begins to tie it up in pledged delegates, i'm pretty sure Dean will switch his support
it's not like Bernie's counting on superdelegates at this stage of the primary anyway

(23,867 posts)Something is driving them to the polls. I wonder what Cal and NY are going to be like. I don't have to think too hard to imagine that now.

(14,587 posts)Caucuses aren't really fair because what if you have to work? A primary vote - people can usually get in sometime when the polls are open.
Qutzupalotl
(14,327 posts)In Nevada, you had your boss telling you to caucus one way or else, and you kinda had to go along. Secret ballots are more honest.

(10,164 posts)...and still the majority of superdelegates there will be handed to Clinton. Because why would the Democratic party give a shit about democracy?
So fucking through with that kind of anti-democratic, treasonous bullshit. Torches and pitchforks...

(250 posts)This is absolutely ridiculous if this stands. If he wins the popular vote, he should be awarded the proportionate delegates. I and sick of this garbage. If these super delagates do this, then the Democratic Party is gone. This is the most undemocratic thing they could do and I will have no problem leaving the party I grew up with, because they left us a long time ago. Scum bags.

(15,435 posts)The FIX has been apparent for quite some time now. Visiting with some friends earlier today this was the MAIN topic. So many people I know feel he's been treated horribly by The Party over all. The words "rigged against him" was the general feeling and that THEY will make sure he won't win.
What was really interesting is that we all weren't Democrats. Even the Repubs have begun to notice. They like his message a lot and they think he's been treated badly by the Big Name Democrats! All of us have never quite seen anything like this. With Trump they understand why he's a big problem for the Repubs, but feel The Clinton's are doing all they can to get rid of Bernie.
I think both sides SEE how money has ruined BOTH Parties, but Bernie does get a lot of respect. There were 2 people who were still very partisan but said Democrats talk about the Repub Party being a mess, but feel Democrats are fracturing because of The Clintons.
I personally AGREE, the D Party won't look the same after this election, there's so much anger out here!
Yes, I too am through with the ANTI-DEMOCRATIC, treasonous bullshit! If The Clintons think they will be loved by "The Subjects" she wants to rule... well it ain't gonna happen! I never really liked her in the past, but NOW my feelings have hardened even more and The Democratic Party is making a VERY BIG MISTAKE! So many of WILL be leaving because of HER! I won't even type what I really feel about her because most know punishment follows!

(24,979 posts)It feeds into the whole "election is over so shut up" scam. Why do all the media outlets keep throwing in the supers (who NOT being elected at the primaries) into primary totals? That says it all. They say this and this election had this result, and the delegate count was X and Y, and they add the damn supers as if they are chosen by the primary.
All that counts is pledged delegates. If the day comes that the supers should reverse the choice of a majority of the pledged delegates as chosen by the voting/caucusing electorates, that will be the beginning of the end of the Democratic Party.
Now, however, we need to see more WINS for Sanders. He can go to the end (as is his right and ours to fund it) and it's great to pick up so many small ones but he needs to start WINNING big ones.
Qutzupalotl
(14,327 posts)and we abandon that ridiculous anachronism. If we're the party of change, we need to allow change. SDs stifle it.

(1,192 posts)Low turn-out tends to result from demoralization, low-information and lack of enthusiasm. And most of the time, it's republicans who benefit from low voter turn-out.
