Boston-area FBI employee accused of pointing gun at woman’s head in bar

Source: Portland Press Herald

HINGHAM, Mass. — An FBI employee faces charges after allegedly pointing a handgun at a woman’s head in a Hingham bar.

James Doyle, of Duxbury, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct. He was released on personal recognizance.

Officers responded to the bar Tuesday night after a patron called police. Officers say they found Doyle at the bar with the properly licensed handgun in a holster at his waist.

The woman wasn’t injured. Police say she and Doyle knew each other.

10. What a weird question--why would you ask it? Do you think that qualifies as an excuse, is that

why you posed it?

I've never seen "Well I was drinking" fly as an excuse for pulling a gun on someone. Anywhere!

Who in their right mind would pull that one out in court????

I brought it to the discussion because I saw it on the news.

A police report filed in Hingham District Court describes how the Tuesday night incident at Gourmet Garden restaurant unfolded, leading to the arrest of James M. Doyle of Duxbury, who told police that he is a supervisor at the federal agency and a friend of the victim.

He acknowledged that he had pointed the gun at one of the women, the report said, but said it was a “big mistake,” and that the argument was “over nothing.” The victim in the case was not injured. Authorities allege that Doyle was drunk at the time.

Doyle faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possessing a firearm while intoxicated, and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned on Wednesday and released on personal recognizance, but he was ordered to stay drug- and alcohol-free, and to stay away from the victim and the Gourmet Garden...Doyle must also surrender his firearms. Police have said Doyle had a permit for the weapon he was carrying. An attorney for Doyle could not be reached for comment.

"released on personal recognizance" so his Girlfriend can be terrified at will and the general public can again wonder when he will 'lose control' again.
