Ohio, Pennsylvania Senate Races Move to ‘Toss Ups’: Cook Political Report
Source: Bloomberg
Decision to move Ohio, Pa. races from lean Republican is mainly due to overall political environment, Cook analyst Jennifer Duffy says on website.
Says incumbent Sens. Rob Portman of Ohio and Pat Toomey of Pa. won their seats in a very good Republican year in 2010; now they face re-election in a presidential year in states that President Barack Obama carried in 2008 and 2012
Says both could be hurt if Donald Trump wins GOP presidential nomination
If Trump proves to be a serious drag on the ticket, there isnt much that either incumbent can do to rescue their re-election bids

(2,493 posts)As a "bitch"? Seems uncalled for.

(5,902 posts)I'll leave it to your imagination as to why exactly.
That said, it's worth noting that taking back the Senate is important not only because it returns control of the chamber to those who are actually sane; but because it strips McCocaine of his own very abusive and unconstitutional exercise of power.

There is a difference, y'know.

I would not discount him at all

(5,902 posts)Which is another excellent reason to vote for Bernie, even among Democrats who don't share his social-democratic outlook: he consistently polls much better than Hillary does against Trump or any other Republican.

(2,493 posts)But I'm concerned about Trump regardless of who the Dem nominee is. I think either Bernie or Hillary SHOULD beat Trump, but Trump's level of support worries me. I can't believe that anyone in the US thinks Trump is qualified to be president.

(5,902 posts)Trump's candidacy - and frankly that of most of the rest of the GOP clown car - is the predictable and inevitable outcome of 25 years of deliberate radicalization efforts through radio (Lumpball, etc.), cable news (Faux), and other media (Birch Society, tea bags, Regnery Press, etc.).
Frankly, I'm grateful it's not worse than it is.

(1,668 posts)Sure, Fetterman is interesting, but that's not going to happen. And though I love the idea of his candidacy, he doesn't seem even nearly ready for a role as large as US Senator. Maybe in a few years after a few more jobs...

(94,684 posts)...but I've heard too many stories about him being unwilling to coordinate with the State Party or the DSCC. As one person told me: "Admirals aren't good at taking direction."

(1,668 posts)People are looking for politicians who aren't corrupt corporate tools.
We're never going to start beating republicans with politicians who are fine with conceding power to republicans as long as the corporate dollars keep rolling in.
brooklynite
(94,684 posts)...but his campaign needs to be coordinated with other races in the State. And DSCC needs to know he's got competent staff if he's going to expect financial support from them.

(2,331 posts)That and the stories of how he treats his staff. I'm honestly surprised there wasn't more interest in this race from some sitting congressman.
