NATO says sorry for killing civilians in Afghan raid

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - The commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan apologised on Friday for killing civilians, including women and children gathering for a wedding, in an air strike this week that has stoked Afghan anger against foreign forces in the country.

NATO previously said the coalition and Afghan forces called for the air strike after they came under fire during an operation to capture a Taliban commander in the Baraki Barak district of Logar province.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said 18 civilians were killed.

"We didn't see the civilians. As the force approached the building, they were taken under fire. A number of forces, and this was a joint Afghan and U.S. force, they were taken under fire, a hand grenade was thrown, three of our people were wounded," General John Allen said, according to a transcript released by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

It's really questionable if this so-called "apology" is genuine considering that countless civilians have been slaughtered for years in Afghanistan and yet none of the drone strikes have ceased whatsoever.

Does Hallmark make special "sorry for murdering your children and extended family" cards in foreign languages?

are worthy to live and which are worthy to die.

That's a "moral question." We don't live in a time when Moral Values about Humankind are important anymore except to a few who try to speak out about it...ask the questions...and are villified for even asking...even when they have no power.

Sad Times and Dark Times when folks deciding who lives and who dies are in the hands of some "Military" that is accountable (seemingly) to NO ONE but THEMSELVES and Wall Street.
