Report: (former Florida Gov) Charlie Crist paid men to hide gay affair
Source: WTSP
Tallahassee, Florida - 10 News has learned of allegations of homosexual affairs, a governor trying to kiss another man, and drunken escapades by former Governor Charlie Crist.
These allegations come in the form of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement Investigative Report in the Republican Party Chair Jim Greer saga.
Jim Greer is facing criminal charges and is set to go to trial on July 30 for allegedly paying himself to raise money for the Republican Party of Florida. Greer maintains that former Governor Charlie Crist approved the deal.
Now, discovery documents released point to allegations that as Governor, Crist paid two men to leave the state to hide his homosexuality and that he was a drunk and a liar.

(1,699 posts)was Charlie thinking about running again? What does his sexuality have to do with anything? Governor criminal, redneck currently of Florida is better?

(541 posts)(who voted for Crist) I can attest that it was widely rumored that Governor Crist was gay, but these allegations take it to a John Travolta level ...hmmm, he's also a Florida (rural Anthony, FL...near Ocala/ google "Jumbolair" resident.
Also, @ madashelltoo: If you're calling current governor rick scott a redneck, coming from me...a native Southerner, I believe that calling Scott a redneck is an insult to true rednecks. Scott's not from the South, and wouldn't know good old redneck hard-work and honesty (yes, most rednecks work-a-day and are good people- save for racist tendencies) if it hit him upside the head (kinda wish somethin would)

(1,699 posts)But, what Charlie does now doesn't matter. He represents no one except himself. If he gets drunk and makes a fool of himself . . . well, who hasn't. We might not all act a fool the same way, but that's Charlie's business is all I'm saying.
As far as Scott being a redneck and not from the south. It really goes to show folks that outlandish racist behavior is not the sole property of southerners. So, mike dub, give me another name I can call that goose neck lowlife and I will adopt it just for you.

(46,758 posts)It would be the allegations of drunken escapades.
I think alcohol is behind a lot of the hubris that goes on in Florida.
On Edit: I have to take into consideration that it's Damon Chase who is pushing this meme. This is what resonates with me:
- Charlie Crist attempted to run over people while he was intoxicated and operating a golf cart.
You see, this is an old trick around here. I supported a local politician, who was, unfortunately, not too bright. But he understood when he was being set up. He was paired up in a tournament with two known shills and a high city official. He said there was drinking, but that the shills tried to sneak an empty wine bottle in his golf bag. That's when he got mad because he knew they were setting him up.
They really know how to defame people around here. Old school.
On the other hand, John Morgan is probably not the one who should be defending Crist on a matter of intoxication.

Of course, your experience may vary.

(13,616 posts)I have no doubt that he did do this, as jokes about Charlie have been going around for years, especially when he married a millionaire just in time to be a candidate for John McCain's VP (only to lose to Palin.) however, know this, the only reason this is being looked at is because Crist is pondering a run at the Governorship against Rick "Vote Shredder" Scott. It does not help that Alex Sink, a true Blue Dog that laid down like a trained puppy after a CLOSE election, wants to run again. If she does, Rick can just wait until he decides to run for President. He is being groomed by the Tea party, in particular his good buddy Grover. Note how grover was so quick to take Jeb Bush to the woodshed when Jeb hinted that taxes may be needed? Jeb knows he is getting the screwjob, and so, now, will Charlie.
I want to feel sympathy, especially because I know we need to crush Rick Scott while he is weaker, but forgive me if I find it hard to feel sorry for yet another GOP that gladly joined in gay bashing and other nefarious things when it suited him. If John M picked him, he might very well be aiding the new war in Iran, especially as John M is not a young man. I remember that the quality of mercy is not strained, but just because I can forgive does not mean I forget.
You are about to reap some nasty Karma, Chain-Gang Charlie.

(11,012 posts)McKay here; he was only governor for a few days). It if was a choice between former Governor Crist and currentl Governor Voldemort, I'd vote for Crist (who has, BTW quit the Republican Party, who rained on his parade because he bucked Jebby Bush and was moderate rather than radical).
I haven't heard a peep about Crist running for gov again until this thread...

(46,758 posts)We need one which isn't beholding to lawyers. Florida lawyers should be required to hand in their licenses in so we can start all over again. That, or put an end to the Florida Bar which fully knows who the crooked lawyers are and don't even step in when one of them gets assigned to the Florida Ethics Committee.
That's how bad things are in Florida.

(11,012 posts)the Democratic party in Florida, but it is rare to have a Dem in the party. The Republicans shut Dems and Indys out of participating in many elections by running another Repub in a primary. On the few occasions that a Dem does run, s/he is defeated by wide margins.

(46,758 posts)are few and far between in the outskirts counties in Florida.
We have plutocracies in small towns. Local government answers directly to these plutocracies. I have tracked down my problems to a plutocracy that was created through the Rotary Club in my town during the nineties. Once they got caught in wrongdoing, instead of coming clean and airing the mistakes, they were protected through a confidentiality agreement. It's a confidentiality agreement that also protects one of Charlie Crist's buddies.
Keep in mind that I think the Rotaries do wonderful work. However, their organization is being used. There is no way around that.
Now the people who operated through the Rotary Club during that the nineties in my community are not only protected, but they build on those relationships victimizing us even further!
I don't think these people care if they're called Dems or Republicans. They will pay the money to whoever they think will win to keep the good times going for them, at our expense.

there could be many more embarrassing allegations mostly about lying and excessive spending by party leaders including house speaker Dean Cannon, Senate president Mike Haridopolos, State Senator John Thrasher, former Senator George LeMieux and U.S. Senate Marco Rubio.
