Koch Privately Committed To Getting Ryan Nominated In Cleveland: Source

Source: Huffington Post

Charles Koch is confident House Speaker Paul Ryan could emerge from the Republican National Convention as the party’s nominee if Donald Trump comes up at least 100 delegates shy, he has told friends privately.

Koch believes Ryan would be a “shoo-in” at a contested convention, should the campaign get to that point. Though Koch's wealth gives him significant influence within the Republican Party, it does not necessarily translate into skill in political prognostication. Still, he and his brother David are fond of Ryan. As a source close to the brothers told the Huffington Post, they appreciate the agenda he has pursued as speaker, including opposition to tax extenders and heightened warnings against corporate welfare -- positions that contrast with the admittedly vague portfolio pushed by Donald Trump.

One source close to Ryan said he would only be interested in it if the party could unite behind him, a scenario he can't envision. “I don’t know what to tell you. He doesn’t want the nomination. And can you imagine the backlash from the Trump forces if someone who didn’t run for president wins the nomination? It would be complete chaos," he said.

A second source close to the Koch brothers said he wasn't aware of a conversation about Ryan, but it didn't surprise him.

Can you imagine if by the time the DNC convention rolled around, a wealthy donor simply jettisoned both Hillary AND Bernie, and designated someone to head the Democratic ticket who had not run even bothered to run in the primaries? I guess the closest equivalent would be to pick someone like Elizabeth Warren, but I am sure a lot of Bernie and Hillary supporters would be a bit annoyed that there efforts were all for naught.

They are shitheads and really don't give a crap about who their candidate is as long as they can cheat enough to win.

Because nobody can survive the GOP run for the nomination. They have to land on the stage at the last possible moment while they avoid the exposure that a campaign fight brings. They have learned that watching these last couple of circus's unfold.

they have completely lost control of the frankenstein monster they paid to create (teabaggers). It could be the most entertaining part of this whole primary season - the complete emasculation of the koch brothers.

8. Right, I'm sure THAT wouldn't lead to a third party Trump campaign.

Hell, maybe Cruz will try a fourth party candidacy. Maybe the Tea Baggers will finally split from the Republican party.

9. If Ryan would have withdraw from running for the House to run for the White House, this could

be a good deal. Defeat Ryan as GOP prez nominee and leave the House leaderless to fight out who will be Speaker. That would fracture the GOP just every way conceivable. I like it. Ryan for President 2016.

Imagine President Paul Ryan, enemy of the people, and reconsider "staying home" if your preferred Democratic candidate is not nominated.

Its purpose is to keep Ryan's name in the news and smooth the way for his Presidency.

But he won't accept the nomination in Cleveland, and he's not going to be elected President.

Instead, they're going to run a third party if Trump wins, or steal it from Trump so that he runs as a third, then use the corrupted voting system to make it a contested election where nobody wins a majority of electoral votes.

Then, the election goes to Congress. Congress protects themselves by not voting for the new President, and Speaker Paul Ryan takes over by default, without a single vote.

They are trying to smooth Ryan's accession to the Presidency, not his election.

if elected, in my view.

He'll either blow it off at the last minute (because The Donald can), or the RNC "brain" trust will amend its rules, and someone like Ryan (or another rw patriot) will step in.

Even if Paulie's reluctant (as he reportedly was to become Speaker, and as Mittens was to become presidential candidate, per one of his sons), he'll just have to take the job of president for the good of the party, and the extreme detriment of the country.

It's all perfectly within legality and decorum.
