DC votes to put Sanders on primary ballot

Source: The Hill via msn

The Washington, D.C., Council voted to put Bernie Sanders on the District's Democratic presidential primary ballot on Tuesday, according to NBC Washington.

The Vermont senator's name had been left off of primary ballots due to a registration error by the local Democratic Party.

Both Sanders and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton filed their registration fees on time, but the party didn't submit paperwork until the day after the deadline. A voter filed a challenge against Sanders, initially keeping him from being registered alongside Clinton.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, who has endorsed Clinton, said she would sign legislation putting Sanders on the ballot.

The chairman of Clinton s campaign, John Podesta, also called for Sanders's name to be on the ballot.

It has been pretty clear to me that Sanders would be on the ballot. The Clinton campaign was pushing for this result http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/274822-clinton-campaign-head-put-sanders-on-dc-ballots

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman says Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) should be on the Washington, D.C., ballot.

An administrative error should not keep a candidate off the ballot. Let's get @BernieSanders on the ballot in DC.

“An administrative error should not keep a candidate off the ballot,” John Podesta tweeted on Thursday. "Let’s get @BernieSanders on the ballot in D.C.”

But the council action did not come without a fight — led by Clinton supporters. They sought to use the council interference to highlight that Sanders was in need of a legislative rescue only because his campaign had chosen to pay its way onto the D.C. ballot rather than to collect signatures as Clinton had done.

Sanders “put himself into this situation,” said D.C. Council member Vincent B. Orange (D-At Large), a chairman of Clinton’s last presidential campaign in the District. “The difference is Hillary Clinton put a crew on the ground and collected signatures — Sanders did not.”

The problem for Sanders came last month when he took advantage of a Democratic Party rule that allowed him to submit a $2,500 donation to the D.C. Democratic State Committee — in lieu of 1,000 signatures — to become certified as a candidate in the party primary.

Sanders submitted his check on time. But the committee notified the D.C. Board of Elections a day later, after the deadline to do so, and a Democratic activist challenged Sanders’s status as a result.

Paying the fee or collecting signatures had nothing to do with the challenge. Lies Lies Lies.

Since way back then Sanders was not well known and Clinton was already a trademark.

But it just points to the amazing uphill climb Sanders has achieved and Clinton's failed anointment as the only chosen one.

has competition. She wanted and expected it to just be a cakewalk coronation and the DNC has done everything short of putting a crown on her head to make it happen for her. It's irritating as hell. This is a democracy and we deserve choice and competition, not a forced rubber stamping. She isn't owed or entitled to any damn votes.

She said recently, in a Politico article I just read, that she's "had enough of Bernie Sanders." Translation: she's had enough of actually having to EARN votes instead of having them, and the nomination, handed to her along with her crown on a silver platter. Too bad. Maybe she should try to figure out WHY he has such support and enthusiasm instead of dismissing and minimizing it and demanding support.
