Prosecutor: Major child porn distributor caught

Source: Associated Press

AP foreign, Monday June 11 2012

SAMANTHA HENRY

Associated Press= NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Federal authorities in New Jersey said Monday they have charged a man in the most significant distribution ring of child pornography ever investigated in the United States.

The U.S. Attorney's office says Maksym Shynkarenko a 33-year-old from Kharkov, Ukraine, founded and operated a Ukraine-based child pornography website that had customers around the world and has resulted in 560 convictions throughout the United States alone.

Authorities extradited Shynkarenko from Thailand over the weekend, where he has been in custody since his 2009 arrest during a vacation to that country. Paul Fishman, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, said Shynkarenko had been fighting extradition, which delayed the process.

Shynkarenko is charged in a 32-count indictment with child exploitation enterprise, advertising child pornography, transporting and shipping child pornography, and money laundering and other counts.

...than be extradited to the U.S.?

I can't imagine that place beimg very nice. I would think the better punishment would be to let the Thais take care of him first.

Who knows? Maybe he thinks he can get a lesser sentence in Thailand, maybe pay a big fine, and get deported back to Ukraine.

This was the name of one of the web sites?!!

I know we're supposed to always consider that the evil we see in others lurks in some shadow form within ourselves. But truly, this just baffles me. I have no other recourse but to collapse in prayers to accept the reality of sociopathic entitlement of some humans and the horror they inflict on others, especially children, yet simultaneously maintain some faith in human love and redemption.

I know the slippery slope we're on if we tattoo or otherwise mark these monsters so they're easily identifiable by the rest of us. We must protect some fundamental human rights even though they have violated the last vestige of dignity in others. But to think that these are teachers, doctors, etc., as they say in that article--in jobs with regular access to children--can keep me up at night. If only they had bright signs on them. Instead they walk among us like the undead.
