On Obama and Libya:
Putin praised President Barack Obama as a "strong man" for recognizing his administration had made mistakes in Libya. Obama recently told Fox News Sunday that "failing to plan for the day after" the fall of Libya's then-dictator Muammar Gaddafi was the "worst mistake of his presidency.
Putin said today, "Firstly, it once again confirms once again that the current U.S. president is a decent man, because to say such a thing is not easy. And that's very good that my colleague possesses the courage to make such statements."
"Barack, as a senator, criticized the administration for its actions in Iraq. But, as president, he allowed a mistake to happen, he has said it himself, in Libya. Not everyone can do that. They snap at him from different sides over that but only a strong man could have done that."
When asked whether he regretted Obamas leaving office, Putin said, "We all go sooner or later probably. It's pointless to regret."
He added, though, that he believes Obama had fulfilled his responsibilities well and "responsibly."

President Vladimir Putin says Russia and Ukraine are discussing the possible exchange of imprisoned Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko.
A Russian court last month sentenced Savchenko to 22 years in prison after finding her guilty of complicity in the 2014 killing of two Russian journalists during fighting between Russia-backed rebels and the Ukrainian government in eastern Ukraine.

(90,061 posts)(CNN)Russia acted "in accordance with international rules" when its unarmed fighter jets had two close encounters with the USS Donald Cook in the Baltic Sea, Russia's Defense Ministry said Thursday.
Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov spoke to Russian state news agency Tass.
Initial reports indicate two encounters with the U.S. Navy-guided missile destroyer occurred Tuesday night in international waters.
One of the Russian jets flew within 75 feet of the U.S. ship's superstructure.

(90,061 posts)The USS Donald Cook, a Navy Arleigh-Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, was repeatedly buzzed by Russian aircraft in recent days while operating in the Baltic Sea. Strangely enough, the aggressive fly-bys happened almost two years to the day since the last time the Russians decided to reenact Top Gun on the high seas with the Cook.
On April 10, 2014, the Cook entered the Black Sea to conduct routine patrolling of international waters. The Cooks arrival in the region followed Russias annexation of Crimea just a month prior and was an attempt to reassure U.S. allies in the region at a time when Russia was also continuing to build up its forces on Ukraines eastern border.
Two days later, on April 12, 2014, a Russian Su-24 conducted close-range, low-altitude passes for 90 minutes near the destroyer, according to Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman at the time. The Su-24, a swing-wing multi-role fighter that closely resembles the United States now-retired F-111 Aardvark, did not overfly the ship, according to Warren.
Almost exactly two years later, at least two Su-24s would return to say hello to the Cook, this time flying so close to the rear of the ship that the crew could probably determine what spots the pilots missed shaving that morning. Accompanying the jets on the low passes, which occurred Monday and Tuesday, was a Russian helicopter that flew astern of the Cook, apparently taking pictures of the destroyer. We have deep concerns about the unsafe and unprofessional Russian flight maneuvers, European Command said of the low passes.

(1,145 posts)but will Hillary? I highly doubt it because she doesn't recognize that a mistake was made - the foreign policy industry in America approved, so it must have been a good thing in her mind.
