Iraqi forces 'recapture IS-held town of Hit'

Source: BBC

Iraqi troops have recaptured the strategically important western town of Hit from Islamic State militants after weeks of fighting, officials say.

The military declared that Hit had been "completely liberated" by units of the elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS).

Since it began in mid-March, the assault on the town has been the focus of the government's wider campaign to regain control of Anbar province.

Hit sits on a key supply route linking IS-held territory in Iraq and Syria.

The South Vietnamese Army had some very good units. When they brought them up to take a town, they could always do it.

Where the trouble came was when the North Vietnamese would attack somewhere unexpected. Then they'd face one of the many lesser units which would collapse.

Eventually once US aid started to end, the South Vietnamese lost their ability to move their best troops around and then there was a general collapse. Even at the end though, the North Vietnamese stubbed their toes a few times when they ran into a strong unit. There just weren't many of them though.
