Bad Weld Suspected in Keystone Pipeline Leak, No Place for Oily Dirt to Go
Source: NBC
MENNO, S.D. -
Its been almost two weeks since a landowner near Menno noticed a sticky substance in his land, which turned out to be crude oil coming from the Keystone Pipeline buried underground.
It took TransCanada nearly a week to find the source of that leak after an estimated 17,000 gallons of oil spilled out.
TransCanada officials are working with state regulators to figure out where to put the impacted dirt.
It will be temporarily stored on-site, until an appropriate disposal facility is found.

This is barely getting any notice by the media.

(36,482 posts)The media is such a huge part of our problem.
We got hooked on Al Jazeera and now they are gone. MSNBC is all election/politics all the time. I don't think they even report on any news anymore if it's not about the election.

(5,668 posts)and 2. just after Iowa approved a stupid pipeline going through out state of which most of the farmers are against.. they should haunt them being so close to Iowa. I'd figured it was gonna be in Northern or Western SD. Not the tiny SE part of SD

(22,000 posts)Might as well just dump it back in the tar sands. Since Canada has decided to pollute their own country let them deal with it.

(6,785 posts)pipes that far is quality control. It costs a lot of money to run non-destructive testing on pipe, especially pipe of that size.
People make mistakes and sometimes materials come damaged. Every weld on that line ought to be NDTed before being buried. If that drives the cost of the pipeline up too much to make it profitable....well....tough shit.
