Bernie Sanders stresses 'common good' in Vatican attack on capitalism

Source: The Guardian

Bernie Sanders launched one of his most powerful indictments of modern capitalism in his campaign in the Vatican on Friday, saying that the greatest challenge facing the world was a moral imperative to redirect “our efforts and vision to the common good”.

A small group of American Sanders fans living in Rome descended on the Vatican for the occasion. Holding a sign that read “Rome is Berning”, supporter Linda Lauretta, a native of New Jersey who spent years in upstate New York before her move to Rome two years ago, swore that she would get involved in a write-in campaign for Sanders if he was not the Democratic nominee.”

If you're saying you think they should play his whole speech for free again and again, I have to tell you that giving free publicity to opponents is a pretty disastrous move in a political campaign. I don't think you're selling yourself well as a consultant.

If you thought there was something that he said that would be unpopular in the USA, you'd be able to point to it, wouldn't you?

....with the tens of thousands of dollars his trip cost.

Delta's fare round trip is $3410, he and nine family members flew to Rome - airfare alone was $34,100.

Throw in his aides and several Secret Service people (paid with OUR taxes!), the total approaches $100,000.

And they only let him speak for ten minutes, all that and he didn't even get his "fifteen minutes of fame"!

As I learned in another thread, if it's looked at as campaign related, he gets knocked for pandering. If it's looked at as not campaign related, he gets knocked for it being an unnecessary distraction from his campaign. It's a no-win scenario. Though for all of the people who take him to task for taking precious time away from a heated New York campaign, well, these people seem to invariably be Hillary supporters, so I don't know why they're complaining that Bernie isn't campaigning enough in New York.

I'm so looking forward to Bernie and his campaign fading away so that he can return to Vermont and continue his duties as Vermont's senator. (And you know ... I'll bet Jane is looking forward to that as well.)

Note to Jury: The above statements represent my opinion. No DU rules or terms of service have been violated. It is not against the rules to have an opinion that differs from the Alerter.

Half or more of his time has to be spent in DC.

It is good, that if he loses, Vermont will always be a place where he is respected for who he is. Nice to be liked (over 86% of the vote) in your home place.

There are other reasons for adding a Note to Jury comment... only, if I explained them fully here, I'd have to add another Note to Jury comment, and you wouldn't want that!

BERNIE SANDERS, A TRUE VISIONARY IN OUR MODERN TIME!

Pope Francis: “The synod experience also made us better realize that the true defenders are not those who uphold its letter, but its spirit; not ideas but people; not formulas but free availability of God’s love and forgiveness,” Pope Francis said. “I see in Senator Bernard Sanders a man of great integrity and moral conviction, who understands these principles and genuinely wants what’s best for all people.”
