Senate confirms new U.S. ambassador to Mexico after Rubio drops hold

Source: Los Angeles Times

Ending a standoff mired in presidential campaign politics, the Senate today confirmed veteran diplomat Roberta Jacobson as U.S. ambassador to Mexico, filling a crucial post that has been vacant for nine months.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a former presidential candidate, had blocked the nomination in part because of her role helping the Obama administration restore relations with Cuba. Her confirmation was approved after Rubio agreed to withdraw his hold.

He did the same thing to Noah Mamet (the Ambassador to Argentina), single-handedly holding up his appointment for over a year simply because the vulture fun TARP baby (and later, Rubio campaign finance chair) Paul Singer told him to.

Perhaps Obama can rid us of water boy by offering him an ambassadorship to the Cayman Islands; that's where Singer keeps most of his loot, after all.

OK,
The ability of one senator to hold up an appointee is based on some power

1) in the Constitution or
2) from some law

??

Thanks, sorry to be so uninformed...

Reid managed to curb the practice somewhat by passing a resolution that would require any hold to be entered into the Congressional Record two days after it is placed. If the Senator that placed the hold does not come forward or remove the hold within the two-day period, the hold would be attributed to the party leader, or the Senator that placed the hold on behalf of the "secret" Senator.

It hasn't really stopped the Rapepublicans from using it though, mainly because their Fox-brainwashed hordes think they're doing God's work every time they try it.

Qué será.

Do these teabagger pacifying jack-asses have any idea how impotent and ridiculous they appear around the world? What a party of sad clowns. Just pathetic. They should be so embarrassed, but they are too deep in denial and prefer to focus on an alternate reality.

Party of buffoons.
