Russians 'Barrel Roll' Over Another U.S. Air Force Plane
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)A Russian SU-27 conducted a "barrel roll" Friday over the top of a U.S. Air Force RC-135 which was flying a reconnaissance mission in international airspace above the Baltic Sea, the Defense Department said.
The Russian SU-27 approached alongside within 25 feet of the U.S. aircraft and then flew inverted over the top of the plane to the other side, Lt. Col. Michelle L. Baldanza, a U.S. Army spokesperson, said in a statement.
"The SU-27 intercepted the U.S. aircraft flying a routine route at high rate of speed from the side then proceeded to perform an aggressive maneuver that posed a threat to the safety of the U.S. aircrew in the RC-135," Baldanza said.
The U.S. considers this a very unsafe aerial maneuver and is expected to voice its concerns to the Russians, a U.S. defense official told CNN.

now, Lithuania is a NATO base. Ukes have a quagmire in their land. The Middle East is all fucked up, mainly because WE fucked it up. Especially based on Hillary's push for putsch. Not quite honest of us, was it?
Russia actually approached us during the early months of Obama's first term, wanting to discuss Chechnya, some of the 'Stans, and radical Muslims. Unfortunately, we had this neocon, PNAC Reich wing fucked up SexState who fucked things up, and her name was NOT Condi Rice. Rodham, something, if I recall.

The USA has caused more trouble and Revolution in this world than any other country. And our people are told, "We are fighting communism. We are fighting for their freedom. We are protecting them from their enemies."
So, we align ourselves with the Saudis. We destroy the Iranian democracy and replace it with a toad like the Shah. We attack Chile, Argentian, and others for seeking real democracy, one that does not revolve around our global gamesmanship. We totally screw Greece, we fuck over a great deal of Africa, and we sell out those who were our allies or at least friendly to us. Say, like Saddam and Ghaddafi.

(39,405 posts)even if they had a handful of nukes and launched one at us or got a terrorist to set one off here comma that good old Triad would take care of their whole country before the dust settled.
Even the Soviet Union could have wiped out the whole United States and two out of the three legs of the Triad and we could have wiped their whole country off the map and that was enough to stay their hand.
So why would some medium small country tried to Nuke us when the only result would be the extinction and annihilation of their home country for the sake of taking out one or even a handful of our cities?

All it takes is one screw-up.
While there are devices that are used to test the susceptibility of various military hardware to EMP, the idea of weaponizing that technology in a portable, directional, and ranged weapon is the stuff of science fiction and conspiracy theorists.

Except, he would be too liberal for today's GOP. In fact, he would be too liberal for today's DNC. Can you imagine HRC pushing Clean AIr, Clean Water, the EPA, social security funding, VA reform, or other (ahem) liberal ideas?
Nixon even pushed for universal health care, except that Ted Kennedy sabotaged that idea.

(28,017 posts)We used to have experienced players involved. After W and Cheney's destruction of so much of that experienced mental infrastructure, we cannot play at the same level anymore.
The Dept. Of State once had a really nifty, small, but extremely smart group of Intel folks. They even produced their own predictions and reports, far more accurately than the NSA or CIA. Their resources were limited, and they did not cover every issue, but when they did, they were significantly accurate. They said there were no WMD in Iraq. Cheney then shut them down. Closed their shop. Fired them. How dare they disagree with the result he wanted.
I suspect Hillary will be another Cheney, with one difference. She WILL also be the president in name, not just in impact.

Only rather that fly them 40 miles off the coast of North Korea, as before this happened, we flew them about 200 miles off the North Korean coast with so many US fighter, and SAR aircraft in the air that we couldn't even do our job.
I was there, I flew on those bogus missions. Maybe, had we retaliated then, we wouldn't be worrying about North Korea today. The US wouldn't have even had to manufacture the cause to go to war like the Bush Admin did in Iraq.
Nixon was a loser.

Some people say that Nixon was the 'last liberal' President. But, in fact, he wasn't a liberal. He was still a conservative. It's just that the Overton Window has been shoved so far to the right over the last 30 years that he now appears to be liberal. *shrug*

(5,954 posts)Fortunately for us, FOR ONCE we do not have a rube in the White House. If Putin is hoping to goad the United States into doing something stupid, he might have to wait for a different President.
(Personally, I'm thinking he's still feeling humiliated after having one of his aircraft shot down by Turkey, and then having to withdraw from Syria with his tail between his legs. Better stir up some shit elsewhere, so he can play tough guy for the rubes at home...)

Not so for my "tail" comment. Putin was doing his usual stupid, petulant brinksmanship with NATO by repeatedly violating Turkish airspace, all for domestic political consumption. (It's a standard way to increase your footprint on the battlefield by convincing your competitors that you're nuts. Works in school yards, works just as well in war.) Turkey unexpectedly called Russia's bluff by shooting down their Su24, and FSA Turkmen added insult to injury by shooting down their rescue helicopter. Putin did virtually nothing to retaliate, and later removed most of his jets from the area (Latakia). That's as close to literally having a tail between his legs as it's possible to get. So, I'm not surprised he's trying to save face by stirring up shit elsewhere.
