President Obama’s Weekly Address: GOP to Blame For Stalemate
Source: ABC News
President Obama today blamed Republicans in Congress for the flailing economic recovery, saying every problem we face is within our power to solve. Whats lacking is our politics.
We have the answers to these problems. We have plenty of big ideas and technical solutions from both sides of the aisle. Thats not whats holding us back. Whats holding us back is a stalemate in Washington, the president said in his weekly address.
While theres been some progress on his proposals to boost the economy, Obama said on most of the ideas that would create jobs and grow our economy, Republicans in Congress havent lifted a finger. Theyd rather wait until after the election in November.
I think thats wrong. This isnt about who wins or loses in Washington. This is about your jobs, your paychecks, your childrens future. Theres no excuse for Congress to stand by and do nothing while so many families are struggling. None, he said.

Obama slams Congress again over stalled jobs steps
(snip)
"Just this past week, one of them said, "Why not wait for the reinforcements?" That's a quote. And you can bet plenty of his colleagues are thinking the same thing," Obama said in his weekly radio and internet address.

(57,936 posts)Obama has used his twice in the last 3 1/2 years.
That's the problem. Obama gives in too easily. He has not shown that he will really say "no" to something that Republicans want.

You have to use the stick as well as the carrot.
Roosevelt served a longer time, but if you average out the number of vetoes per term, the difference is still astounding.

(31,879 posts)About a survey I received from the Republican Party.
One of the questions read something along the lines of . . . If President Obama wins - the Tax Cuts will end etc etc
Which leads me to believe that the Republican leadership has zero intention to tackle tax revenue, job creation from an infrastructure development and renewal perspective, and they want to run down the clock.
Now - many of those who have not been able to find work for a few years have lost their unemployment benefits. They are gone.
This won't be popular - but I want the Democratic leadership to take a stand this summer. We will not compromise on having millionaires pay a fair share into this country's till. Stand on one side of the aisle, craft the narrative, and don't back down.

President Onehandle would call a joint session of Congress, lock the doors, and call out individual guilty parties one by one and tell America exactly what they did to prevent recovery.

(7,767 posts)The president is absolutely right and many of us have been saying exactly what he has been saying-it's the republic party's fault. They came into office on 3 words Jobs jobs jobs and haven't brought one serious jobs bill to the floor. Why doesn't he stand up? You need to sit down and think a little bit before spamming the board with RW crap like this.

(7,403 posts)I wish someone like Biden would be making these points. Why? Because Republicans are likely to attack Obama for whining.
