Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe under federal investigation for campaign contributions

Source: CNN

Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the FBI and prosecutors from the Justice Department's public integrity unit, U.S. officials briefed on the probe say.

The investigation dates to at least last year and has focused, at least in part, on whether donations to his gubernatorial campaign violated the law, the officials said.

McAuliffe wasn't notified by investigators that he is a target of the probe, according to the officials.

"The Governor will certainly cooperate with the government if he is contacted about it," said Marc Elias, attorney for McAuliffe Campaign, in a statement to CNN.

The article was posted directly from CNN (its the banner headline), with zero editorial comment from the poster.

Do you not consider this worthy of being considered Latest Breaking News? Or is passive aggression how you normally handle news you evidently don't like?

From the article:

Wang also has been a donor to the Clinton foundation, pledging $2 million. He also has been a prolific donor to other causes, including to New York University, Harvard and environmental issues in Florida.

We'll have to wait and see how this shakes out.

What I wanted to let people figure out is he's made a lot of charitable donations to a lot of different causes. And maybe not rush to judge Clinton Foundation donations as political donations, as we know many people probably are rushing to that judgement before we have all the facts in.

from CNN

Among the McAuliffe donations that drew the interest of the investigators was $120,000 from a Chinese businessman, Wang Wenliang, through his U.S. businesses. Wang was previously delegate to China's National People's Congress, the country's ceremonial ...

U.S. election law prohibits foreign nationals from donating to federal, state or local elections. Penalties for violations include fines and/or imprisonment.
But Wang holds U.S. permanent resident status, according to a spokeswoman, which would make him a U.S. person under election law and eligible to donate to McAuliffe's campaign.

Could be related to another FBI investigation going on right now. After all, one would have to admit that Terry is a least good friends with them in the other investigation.

I so wish Democrats would just do the right thing and stay out of GD trouble. If it ain't one thing, it's another. If one just does the right thing and follows the effing rules, you won't get in trouble and drag the whole Party down with you, by association.

McAuliffe is a close ally of Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. He was co-chairman of Bill Clinton's 1996 presidential re-election campaign and chaired Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential bid. On Sunday, McAuliffe hosted a fundraiser for Clinton's campaign. For a $2,700 donation, a person attending the event could get a photo taken with him, according to Clinton's website.

______

wow, what 2,700 dollars gets you nowdays

I remember when he was blaming Obama for the Clinton assassination comment. Yep, he's a real winner that McAuliffe.

If Mr. Wang is a permanent resident is it the amount? Where the money came from? Where it went and how it got to Mr McA ? Like did it go through the Clinton Foundation first?

And how can somebody who was a member of the Chinese Government board get permanent residence status here? It's kind of amusing, thinking back on what we thought of Communists back in the day, that now our politicians are so cozy with them.

Is Mr. Wang listed in the Panama Papers?

I just don't see the connection, but if it's the FBI I wouldn't think it was state Republicans trying to tar him.
