Clemens Jury Reaches a Verdict

NOT Guilty on all counts per MSNBC

A federal jury in Washington, D.C., said it has reached a verdict in the perjury trial of Roger Clemens after prosecutors' alleged the baseball great lied about steroid use.

An announcement was expected Monday afternoon.

Roger Clemens arrived at court in Washington on June 11 for his perjury and obstruction trial.

The verdict comes after a two-month trial and a yearslong investigation that began when Mr. Clemens told Congress he never used performance-enhancing drugs.

The legal cloud over Mr. Clemens began building in 2007, when a congressionally ordered inquiry into steroids in professional baseball concluded that the pitcher, a seven-time winner of his position's Cy Young Award, was among those who had used steroids. The primary source for that finding was Mr. Clemens's former trainer, Brian McNamee, who worked with him when he pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Baseball legend Roger Clemens found not guilty of perjury

shington (CNN) -- Legendary baseball pitcher Roger Clemens was found not guilty Monday of lying to Congress during an investigation of steroid use among major league players.
The case against Clemens involved one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury. He was not charged with illicit use of performance-enhancing drugs, but his denial of such use was part of the case against him.
A jury found him not guilty on all six counts.
Clemens wiped his eyes after the verdict was announced, then hugged his likewise emotional sons. His lawyer, Rusty Hardin, meanwhile, gave a thumbs-up to the jury before leaving the courtroom.
"Mr. Clemens, you're free to go," Judge Reggie Walton said.

Reminds me of how they got that dangerous criminal Martha Stewart off the streets while the Enron criminals and other real corporate criminals roamed free.

...that some people, in your country, can lie to congress and be acquitted. Good luck prosecuting the real criminals in our society.
