In spite of everything they say they want, that America had before the GOP dismantled much of it, having its roots in liberalism, they despise liberals. Not conservatives, liberals.
As Barney Frank said of Bernie Sanders a couple decades ago, for them there's no such thing as honest disagreement. Those who disagree are corrupt and not part of the solution.
In spite of at least a couple hundred radicals who found a home at DU, they are mercifully solidly in the minority in the real world.

(57,936 posts)They are for Bernie. Jerry Brown isn't even a name to most Bernie supporters who are, many, many of them new to politics.
I like Jerry Brown but he is wrong about Hillary (although for political purposes I can understand why he is now endorsing her -- a rather late endorsement probably also due to political considerations) and about fracking. Also appointed some lousy people to the Coastal Commission and a couple of other commissions.
But generally, he saved California from destitution by placing a ballot measure to raise taxes and repay our debts after the disastrous borrow and spend regime of Schwarzenegger.
Nobody is right all the time. That goes for Jerry Brown.
He is quite wrong about Hillary.
I'm glad that he waited until the very last minute to make this politically calculated endorsement. Californian's see through this.
Hillary has a lot of power and will wield it to harm people who don't endorse her.
Bernie has the people and a lot of love.
We shall see whether power trumps love or love trumps power.
Apparently in so far as Jerry Brown is concerned, power trumps love which could mean that Trump trumps in November. Sorry to say that but it is true.

(67,782 posts)An Open Letter to California Democrats and Independents
POSTED BY JERRY BROWN 26PC ON MAY 31, 2016
On Tuesday, June 7, I have decided to cast my vote for Hillary Clinton because I believe this is the only path forward to win the presidency and stop the dangerous candidacy of Donald Trump.
I have closely watched the primaries and am deeply impressed with how well Bernie Sanders has done. He has driven home the message that the top one percent has unfairly captured way too much of Americas wealth, leaving the majority of people far behind. In 1992, I attempted a similar campaign.
For her part, Hillary Clinton has convincingly made the case that she knows how to get things done and has the tenacity and skill to advance the Democratic agenda. Voters have responded by giving her approximately 3 million more votes and hundreds more delegates than Sanders. If Clinton were to win only 10 percent of the remaining delegates wildly improbable she would still exceed the number needed for the nomination. In other words, Clintons lead is insurmountable and Democrats have shown by millions of votes that they want her as their nominee.
But there is more at stake than mere numbers. The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called climate change a hoax and said he will tear up the Paris Climate Agreement. He has promised to deport millions of immigrants and ominously suggested that other countries may need the nuclear bomb. He has also pledged to pack the Supreme Court with only those who please the extreme right.
The stakes couldnt be higher. Our country faces an existential threat from climate change and the spread of nuclear weapons. A new cold war is on the horizon. This is no time for Democrats to keep fighting each other. The general election has already begun. Hillary Clinton, with her long experience, especially as Secretary of State, has a firm grasp of the issues and will be prepared to lead our country on day one.
Next January, I want to be sure that it is Hillary Clinton who takes the oath of office, not Donald Trump.
With respect,
Jerry Brown
OwlinAZ
(410 posts)also, the character and trustworthiness to command the respect of other nations and the American people.
Mrs. Clinton's self serving nature does not command respect. Her past judgments do not recommend her for the leader of the free world. Sanders has consistently out polled Clinton in opposition to Trump even in the face of media opposition.
You are wrong to endorse Clinton, Gov. Brown.
George II
(67,782 posts)....have an equally firm grasp of the issues. But he's been unable to demonstrate over the last 25 that he has the leadership to actually do anything substantive in his career. He's a follower, not a leader.
How Sanders does in a mythical match up is irrelevant, those polls serve virtually no point. There have been about 45 polls that ARE relevant, primaries and caucuses. Hillary Clinton has come out the clear winner with respect to delegates AND popular votes. She has defeated Sanders by 13% in the popular vote and about 10% delegate-wise. That's how we choose nominees in the Democratic Party, not via some hypothetical poll.

Thursday night, Brown will be feted at the home of D.C. Lobbyist Tony Podesta, brother of former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta.
The site also says Podesta is active with the Democratic Governors Assn. and maintains close relationships with governors from coast to coast.
The DGA spent nearly $500,000 on Browns behalf in 2010 through an independent expenditure committee.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/california-politics/2012/02/jerry-brown-washington-lobbyist-fundraiser-barack-obama.html
John Podesta is of course Clinton's campaign chairman and the Podesta's lobbying firm in DC is a major bundler for Hillary. They represent everyone from weapons manufacturers to big pharma to Saudi Arabia.
Why would anyone be surprised that someone like Brown is trying to keep his campaign donors onside?

It's been an amazing year for this.
In the meantime, issues like Climate Change and Income Inequality (which I prefer to label as Deficient Income), are ignored by Republicans, in general, who have completely prostituted their party for the sake of wealth and power.
It is not difficult to understand why there are people who choose to not vote.

(15,139 posts)clusterfuck when the state was in the financial toilet. By comparison, he's done a decent job with the budget. But the infrastructure still sucks. Education funding lags. Homelessness is not being addressed. The divide between the haves and have nots is huge. The cost of living is astronomical. Public college tuition is too high. Covered California, the state's ACA insurance exchange, is expensive and, from personal experience, pretty useless.
Brown is certainly not a progressive activist fighting to improve the everyday lives of ordinary Californians, so it's not surprising he'd endorse the moderate/center right candidate who has no bold ideas. California Democrats are by and large a progressive bunch who will ignore this, as they will ignore the rightwing rag LA Times Hillary endorsement. Bernie will win here next week.

And ignoring your somewhat ageist comment perhaps they come to the opinion that Clinton is better thru decades of experience?
That sure sums up my position. I like them both but used my 50 years of experience and what limited wisdom I might have accumulated and decided Clinton is the best candidate and will be a more effective candidate.

(19,926 posts)Brown and Obama are criticized for their policies. Brown has allowed fracking for one, which is hugely detrimental to the environment and you'd think we have enough earthquakes out here. He used to be very liberal but this time around he's not that liberal at all.
Obama is a moderate Republican, he has said so himself. His policies are centrist and corporate friendly. He sold out to big pharma and put the public option out to pasture and didn't even try for single payer. He had private meetings with big pharma and never listened to a peep from single payer advocates. He expanded spying on American citizens. He has prosecuted more whistleblowers than all other presidents combined. He offered to cut social security. He called torturers patriots. He enacted more free trade deals. He wants the TPP passed.
So yes, you are wrong because you refuse to digest critical analysis and believe that anyone who criticizes a politician is a hater. You don't seem to hold dear any of the policy stances and principles that the Democratic Party is supposed to stand for because you blindly support someone who does not uphold them, thereby throwing your principles away assuming you were critical of Bush when he did the above.
