Trump Orders Surrogates to Intensify Criticism of Judge and Journalists
Source: Bloomberg
An embattled Donald Trump urgently rallied his most visible supporters to defend his attacks on a federal judge's Mexican ancestry during a conference call on Monday in which he ordered them to question the judge's credibility and impugn reporters as racists.
"We will overcome," Trump said, according to two supporters who were on the call and requested anonymity to share their notes with Bloomberg Politics. "And Ive always won and Im going to continue to win. And thats the way it is."
There was no mention of apologizing or backing away from his widely criticized remarks about U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing cases against the Trump University real-estate program.
When former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer interrupted the discussion to inform Trump that his own campaign had asked surrogates to stop talking about the lawsuit in an e-mail on Sunday, Trump repeatedly demanded to know who sent the memo, and immediately overruled his staff.
"Take that order and throw it the hell out," Trump said.

(33,345 posts)Presumably she didn't WRITE the memo...
<Told the memo was sent by Erica Freeman, a staffer who circulates information to surrogates, Trump said he didn't know her. He openly questioned how the campaign could defend itself if supporters weren't allowed to talk.
"Are there any other stupid letters that were sent to you folks?" Trump said. "That's one of the reasons I want to have this call, because you guys are getting sometimes stupid information from people that aren't so smart.">
This shizz will def get the press to give him a fair shake:
<A clearly irritated Trump told his supporters to attack journalists who ask questions about the lawsuit and his comments about the judge.
"The people asking the questionsthose are the racists," Trump said. "I would go at 'em.">

(959 posts)I'm starting to wonder if this whole exercise was the conman attempting to subvert the system regarding all his nefarious business dealings, and the subsequent legal proceedings that seem to follow him. This is becoming more about his own personal problems and less and less about the election.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)He would then use the title "Former Presidential Candidate" on all of his hotel brochures and real estate marketing. Instead, the GOP base fell in love with his racist tirades and he was thrust into a position that he never planned on actually being in. He probably thought that he could just wing it in the general election and people would fall in love with him. Instead he has an increasingly weary media beginning to question him, a lukewarm reception from the GOP, and the democrats quickly ratcheting up their criticism. All of this is damaging his grossly over-inflated and very weak ego. He essentially stumbled into one of the most stressful situations anyone could put themselves in, running as a major party candidate for president, and he has no clue what to do or how to escape. He has only be the presumptive republican nominee for a few weeks and he already looks like he is at the breaking point.
Look at this story from NBC, from today. His campaign is a two bit operation run by a very inexperienced and incompetent skeleton crew, and it already seems to be in ruins. Without hyperbole, they have no money, no fundraising apparatus, no GOTV operation, no field offices, no communication department, and almost no one working for them. You could likely run his current campaign out of a small studio apartment. He is either far more incompetent than is humanly possible or he doesn't really care about winning (maybe both).

(794 posts)If Trump is dissed too much or he screws up too much, he might wait until after the convention--when he is the official nominee--and then resign/quit.
This contingency is provided for in law, to deal with a case where the candidate dies or is incapacitated.
Then the RNC meets to decide who the replacement will be. There will be no new convention and obviously no new primaries.
The RNC could nominate anyone. But they will choose someone with wide name recognition, likely one of the other candidates. Rubio, Kasich, even Jeb are possible. Hillary's campaign would face a major challenge. Trump will be easy to defeat, and Dems get down-ballot help. But it would be a whole new campaign without Trump.

bucolic_frolic
(43,183 posts)some of the personality types run together predictably
Narcissistic for example, in extreme forms, often has a sadistic element
also borderline often occurs with narcissism. Borderline described in the book
"I hate you, don't leave me".
Attention seekers are often histrionic, acting things out in animated fashion.
Someone on here pointed out that narcissists often change their minds, reverse course,
say contradictory things in one sentence or at different times ... and haven't a clue
of the duality. And I concur on that, based on a couple I know.
So there is rich orange material there!

(3,072 posts)He is becoming very isolated and weird(er). I think the stress of the campaign is quickly getting to him. Don't be surprised if they soon find him in a bunker, talking about non-existent campaign offices and fundraisers that never happened.

(43,183 posts)but then I never thought that
He is imploding
Granted the GOP and Tea Party are against everything that doesn't agree with them
but what sane political party is going to sail into an election with a candidate that advocates
upending the judiciary for his every whim and tantrum? It's a recipe for chaos as more and more
people get on the train. It's Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre without even holding office.
It's not going to happen.
HRC timed her Trump speech perfectly. Or ... the two parties are talking.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)A month or two ago, I would have said he absolutely wants to be president but there have been more and more stories coming out that make it sound like he isn't even trying win. I posted this elsewhere in this thread but this NBC article says that his campaign essentially doesn't exist. He doesn't have the hundreds or thousands of staffers and volunteers, and all of the machinery that takes a few years to get fully operational hasn't even been implemented yet. It is just Trump and a few people of his very inexperienced advisers running the entire thing. He could shut down his entire campaign by unplugging a webcam and canceling his office's landline service.
http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/donald-trump-does-not-have-campaign
I still think it is more likely than not that he will keep flailing around like a fish on land until november when he finally just packs it in and goes home but I think the odds of him bailing before or right after the convention are getting better.

(3,072 posts)and the media was fawning over him for having a "very presidential press conference" and claiming that he were going to "start seeing a new Donald Trump." I think that lasted about 8 hours until he used a racial slur or threw a rock at a reporter or something. If anything he seems to be more erratic and unhinged than he was during the primaries.

(62,276 posts)And of course there's still time for it, but it is looking increasingly unlikely. Which bodes very well for the Democrat.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)He has very significant personality problems. This is just who he is and he isn't just going to suddenly be a different person. He likely sees absolutely nothing wrong with his behavior and he will probably fire anyone that tells him differently.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)People were like "his fans wouldn't care," but I argued that he would care about how he was seen. That's one reason I don't see him stepping down unless by chance his poll numbers drop to 20% or some crap. He won't accept anything else but that he's a winner.

(3,072 posts)My expertise is not in severe mental health problems but my best guess is NPD. People with this condition are known to get very aggressive and even violent if something threatens their grossly over-inflated sense of self worth. They are very full of themselves but also dangerously insecure. I had a colleague that treated a patient with narcissistic personality disorder a few years back. He said she was one of the most difficult and erratic people he has ever dealt with. And that may very well be the personality of our Republican nominee. Great.....
It certainly is possible that he has more than one thing going on in that badly comb-overed noggin of his but it would likely be secondary to what we are seeing on a daily basis.
