MEXICO CITY Mexicos notorious Zetas drug cartel brought victims into a prison it controlled to kill them before dumping their incinerated remains in a river between 2009-2012, authorities said.
The prosecutors office in the northern state of Coahuila issued arrest warrants for five suspects in connection with the murders at the Piedras Negras penitentiary, which sits across the U.S. border.
Prosecutors say at least seven people were killed inside the prison. They were burned and their ashes were thrown in a river, authorities said without indicating how the victims were brought in and taken out of the prison.
