U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson Resigns After Medical Leave

Source: Bloomberg

By William McQuillen - 2012-06-21T15:06:59Z

U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson resigned, less than two weeks after he was treated for a seizure following a series of minor traffic accidents.

Bryson, 68, who has been in office since October, was found unconscious in his Lexus June 9, after the second of two collisions, police said. He had a seizure, according to his office. He took medical leave June 11.

In a letter to the agency today, he said he was resigning to prevent his situation from becoming a distraction to the agency.

I saw an ad for people to write "stories" for the Internet, I am betting a few of them are writing comments for this story.

Sensible people know this, so maybe that is why there aren't many comments on DU. The comments on the link, to the story, sound like reTHUGS and are all about how he is hiding something, like drugs or alcohol, even though he tested negative for alcohol and the blood test results aren't back yet.

Who would want to be responsible for a cabinet level job after such a history of seizures?

It makes sense that the guy needs to get medical attention and devote himself to rehabilitation.

Why are we making something out of this that it is not?

It's just a bad break during what is arguably the pinnacle of a lifelong career.

But, amazingly enough, there might have been a tepid apology offered by same.

Yeah, there's probably some kind of medical reason for his seizures. Stroke? Brain tumor? The brain is pretty complex, as I've been learning the past year or so. If he's ill, he's doing the right thing by stepping down and focusing on his recovery. Let's respect his privacy on this.
