Ohio gun shop owner killed during concealed carry class
Source: Fox news
The owner of an Ohio gun shop was shot and killed when a student in a concealed carry permit class accidentally discharged a weapon, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
James Baker was shot in the neck around 1 p.m. Saturday and died at his KayJay Gun Shop in Amelia, the paper reported.
The class is part of a program designed to coach participants on gun safety.
There were about 10 people in the concealed carry class in a room adjacent to where Baker was sitting, according to the Enquirer.

(67,782 posts)....that were planning on shooting guns at targets in the back of the property. Before they went back there they were handling their guns around us all.
I was very very nervous all day, and expressed my thinking that accidents can happen. One of them said, as he was going back to shoot, "we're all experienced with guns, we know what we're doing."
After the FIRST shot back there, he went running toward the house with blood spewing out of his hand. The gun recoiled and split open his thumb.
Such is the level of gun owners' "experience".

(1,186 posts)State Legislatures should pass laws requiring the same safe health and safety standards for gun shows, gunnstores, and shooting ranges that were passed for abortion clinics. To wit:
1). There must be a doctor present whenever guns are handled. That doctor must have staff priveleges at a hospital within five miles of the clinic. He/she must be advanced trauma life support certified.
2). The hallways or aisles of the building must be wide enough to fit two gurneys side-by-side.
3). Access to the building must permit ambulance gurneys to be wheeled inside without difficulty. No stairs.
4). The owner/manager just be on call 24/7, in the event one of his customers has a crisis or needs assistance.
After all State Legislatures are solely interested inmpublic safety .....
Any other restrictions, folks?

It's not like a war zone where they are at least risking their lives in order to save others who have no choice about being there.

(1,186 posts)Just like abolition clinics, the cost of complying with these proposed regulations would be exorbitant and the gun stores, gun shows and shooting ranges might have to shut down. Gun addicts might have to travel hundreds of miles and even cross state lines. Perish the thought!

(3,595 posts)Local head man was a cop and had a shooting range in his basement. The basement was 3/4 finished but had a dirt wall on the forth wall of the basement --- don't ask because I don't know. Anyways, targets were set up in front of the dirt wall and we kids were invited to target shoot in the basement.
My turn and the bullet must have hit a stone in the dirt. Next thing, I am grabbing my neck and feeling something solid. The bullet fragment was removed without serious harm and I still have a small scar. All I could and still can think of is thank god it wasn't my eye.

(6,891 posts)he exchanged his loaded gun for one he believed had been cleared. Believing a gun is unloaded unless you've cleared it yourself is a real no-no.

I wish I could say I am surprised at how shallow some liberal's beliefs are. Yet it has been demonstrated over and over that folks who express strong beliefs about gun violence need very little information on a person to change the person's death from tragic to hilarious. Actually they only need one piece of knowledge, knowing not the first thing about the person beside that, and it makes the death cause for celebration.
But I am not surprised by the reaction to this man's death.

(6,891 posts)It's both tragic and confusing. According to the article, the victim wasn't even in the room. I don't understand though what live ammunition was doing in the classroom or why someone loaded a gun?
