Ryan says Democratic ‘sit-in’ demanding gun control vote is publicity stunt
Source: Reuters
U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said on Wednesday a sit-in by Democratic representatives aimed at pushing for a vote on gun control legislation was a publicity stunt and he would not bring the bill up for a vote.
They know that we will not bring a bill that takes away a persons constitutionally guaranteed rights without
due process, Ryan said in an interview with CNN. We dont agree with that. The Senate already doesnt agree with that
. This is a publicity stunt.

(5,668 posts)Sure it's a stunt. Not sure about a publicity stunt but then again how many times did Republicans pull a publicity stunt by voting down the ACA??

(115,735 posts)The "stunt" draws a lot of attention, which sometimes makes it possible to get things done when nothing else worked. Just about every major movement had its "publicity stunts," which is just a cynical term for a demonstration or rally to draw attention to an issue. Ryan is attempting to make it look trivial by using the word "stunt," but maybe somebody should ask him what MLK's march on Washington was.

(11,087 posts)Where's the Republican outrage about their due process? And the police shot the perpetrator dead, without a warrant, or any court ruling. He didn't get due process either.
This fake concern for due process is just another trick to try and change the subject. Republicans didn't care about due process when it came to locking away a lot of people in Guantanamo. They didn't care about due process when they created the no-fly list and deprived thousands of people of the right to fly on airplanes. Why do they insist on making gun rights extra special?

(8,203 posts)twists himself into a pretzel - and he had to go to WOLF "Mr. NEOCON" himself to whine and whimper about the constitution - that is what his job is - bring the bill for the vote - and let the chips fall where they may - it is up to the SCOTUS to interpret the constitutional measures -if,of course, someone decides to challenge the bill - if passed - which it won't - but we will have the republiklans on record...that is what AYNRYANRAND doesn't want..along with his band of cowards...that is the word..COWARDS!
What does he think we are - stupid Democrats - all the DEMOCRATS involved with the sit-in - don't know the constitution of their legislative body....tis AYNRYANRAND ,,,he knows very well he can bring this bill to a vote...
I am so proud of our Democratic representatives...

(12,392 posts)"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. The phrase gives three examples of the "unalienable rights" which the Declaration says has been given to all human beings by their Creator, and for which governments are created to protect.
You, Mr. Ryan, are sworn to protect American lives, not sell them to the NRA for the price of a campaign donation.
