If there's a place one might expect to find "trained, responsible, law-abiding gun-owners", I would think it would be a gun range.

I guess not...

I've been to the range a number of times when there are folks there who have clearly never handled a firearm or had any training whatsoever. I try to stay away from those individuals.

Read what this asshole did

Brumby was in the last shooting lane at the range with a solid wall on his right-hand side, an email from the sheriff’s office said. Around 3:15 p.m., Brumby fired a round and the spent shell casing struck the wall. When it did, it deflected back and hit Brumby’s shirt, the email said.

“Brumby then used his right hand, which was holding the handgun, in an attempt to remove the casing,” the sheriff’s office said. “While doing so, he inadvertently pointed the firearm directly behind him and accidentally fired.”

I abhor guns but I have enough god damned sense to know you do not engage in casual activities with a loaded weapon in your hand.

Criminal negligence.

They say enforce the laws that we have, then fight like hellcats to make the laws toothless and make sure gun killers do not do the time. The only thing they care about are gun sales, they don't care one whit about human lives. That guy needs to go to jail and have his gun rights revoked forever, won't happen in FL.

That's what the cops will say, c'mon, this happened in Florida where home-made back-yard shooting ranges are legal. That's also what the gun nuts will say, though it happened at a frickin' shooting range as one particular gun aficionado was passing the nut to the next generation.

imo real accidents are genuinely random and genuinely uncontrollable. Any "gun accident" is, by definition, not random and is controllable. Casual handling of a loaded firearm at a gun range especially doesn't qualify as "an accident".

The gun nuts always say the same thing, they say "don't take away my gun because some a$$hole didn't practice gun safety and had an accident". They all say that every time one of these "accidents" occur, never imagining they will be the a$$hole in the news next week, and it'll be some one in their family (usually is) who pays the price.

RIP, kid. Dead at his father's hand, only 14 years old.

shot and killed by their father. I'm sure that left a lasting impression that they will never forget. Just another Sunday afternoon at the High Noon Firing Range. How appropriate the name for the activity.

What's the sense in being Right to Life and Pro-gun?

Are they raising them for a harvest of sorts?

this was NOT an "accident". It was grotesque negligence and stupidity in the handling of a loaded gun. The father should be charged with involuntary manslaughter, but because of our gun-worshipping culture, everyone will judge that he's "suffered enough".

I hope this does not deter Dad from continuing to raise his children to be responsible and safe gun owners......like himself.

Clearly, this was a complete accident, and very little could have been done to prevent it. And people do dangerous things all the time. From driving to work, going into a swimming pool, of even having sharp knives in their homes. Guns are just a part of life, and like they say, "accidents happen."

He needs to get those other kids back out to the range, and let this be a lesson for them on what not to do. And really, what are the odds it will happen again? Must be astronomical.

Thoughts, Prayers & Guns.
