Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, and Obama arrived by motorcade uptown, where they plan to hold a rally shortly at the Charlotte Convention Center. Its a big day for Clinton: In addition to her first joint appearance on the campaign trail with Obama, FBI Director James Comey announced Tuesday morning that his agency wont recommend Clinton face charges in the long-running probe into her use of a private email server.
By early afternoon, long lines snaked around the convention center and down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, as hundreds of people waited to enter the rally.
With North Carolina potentially a crucial swing state this year Obama won its 15 electoral votes in 2008 and Republican Mitt Romney clinched the state in 2012 its not just Democrats visiting. Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is also planning to hold a 7 p.m. rally in Raleigh on Tuesday.
And state politics are wrapped up in the campaign stops as well. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Roy Cooper, the state attorney general vying to unseat Gov. (53,521 posts)I don't live there but based on what I have heard from people who live down there a lot of the reactionary BS going on in NC in recent years is because of reactionary rural folks pissed off at all the educated liberal "carpetbaggers" moving to Raleigh and Ashville.

(7,901 posts)We North Carolina Democrats saw this act before in 2008 and 2012. Lots of "it feels good to be a democrat" attitude without substantive policy to make it happen. The DOJ and the DNC ignored what's gone on in NC for 6 years before Loretta Lynch was appointed. Many here feel that only changed because the election is coming again.
Hillary needs to do more than wave Trump and HB2 in our faces. She needs to do a lot more than wave the good ole party flag to rally around. We need genuine commitment to constructive and solid policy on protecting everyone's right to Vote NOW, on funding and expanding education, on income inequality and minimum wage, on protecting environment, water, and air quality, on protecting and expanding Social Security, and Disability services. We need to have appropriate, thorough and transparent regulation of the investment banks that call NC and New York home. We need clearly defined goals for foreign policy that go well beyond the permanent war on terror and deal with the underlying issues of oil, economics, food and environment which are the driving forces behind it.
We need a lot more than the usual party line. It won't be worth showing up if we don't get that. We've had it for more than 8 years and are through with that song and dance. I've been a NC Democrat for 36 years and damn it if we aren't due for more from Washington and the party alike.
You want NC democrats to get out and vote you'd better do more than kiss babies, eat Barbecue and point out how far You (we) have come. We're still under the thumb of the next worst State Government to Kansas. If you can't help us do something about that don't ask for our help with your little problems. We've got our own to settle first if we're going to be around long enough to help more with yours.
