What Happened When A Jewish Republican Confronted A Party Official About Trump’s Hateful Rhetoric
Source: Huffington Post Politics
Alex Beinstein learned about Donald Trumps anti-Semitic tweet on Saturday morning. The 28-year-old Colorado Republican, fresh from an unsuccessful but high-profile primary challenge to a sitting congressman, did two things next. He withdrew his affiliation with the GOP. And he contacted the state party chairman, Steve House, who had been a mentor of sorts for the political newcomer.
House had made nice with Trump the day before. Though Trump supporters had sent the GOP official death threats earlier this year over a Colorado presidential nominating delegate selection process they saw as rigged, House said he and the partys presumptive presidential nominee were beginning to work together.
Beinstein wanted to know how committed House was to that work. If Trump jokes about lynching black people, are you also still going to support him? Beinstein asked House. This is barbarically and disgracefully nuts. Pathetic and horrendous.
The interaction that followed, documented in an email exchange shared with The Huffington Post, provides a snapshot of how Trumps bouts of bigotry place party officials and loyalists in a bind. Beinstein repeatedly mentioned loyalty to the Republican Party and his interpretation of its core principles, but he says theres no denying that Trump is an unacceptable candidate. House did the strange dance thats become de rigueur for the many prominent Republicans who say theyll support Trump and then become forced to defend his excesses.

i.e., imagining you'll be "saved" by throwing in with the power.
I'm not sure what you're babbling about, however.

The young ex-Republican never liked how Trump talked about Muslims or Americans of Hispanic heritage, but he always saw it as simply obnoxious and not immediately threatening, he told HuffPost <emphasis added>.
When it hits home like this I feel bad I wasnt even more sympathetic.
Beinstein plans to re-register as a Republican after the presidential election.
Not good enough, buddy.
He still supports the party, and after the presidential election will re-register as a member of the party that provides a haven for over 13 million voters who avidly support Trump.

(2,322 posts)...of the Jewish people, even after discussing the poverty this father grew up in. Bet his family could have used some assistance...and just which party would have provided that and which would have said "Poor people are lazy and don't deserve any help!"?
Most telling of all is that comment you quoted and bolded which essentially says that Trump's remarks about Mexicans and Muslims were "obnoxious" buffoonery, but anti-semitism isn't. That's a Republican for you. They'll excuse anything until it's personal. Obamacare is evil...until they find themselves in need of it. And insults to minorities are not that bad...until the insult is against them.
I got no patience for these types. The only good I see here is that it's one more vote that won't go to Trump. Won't go to Hillary either, but at least it won't go to Trump.

(53,959 posts)...when it comes to anti-Semitism, very few people actually give a shit. They will always make excuses for it; both sides. So, if anything, maybe he will learn a life lesson that while few may care about us, it is our job to care for others and not wait for the wolf to come blowing at our door before we take notice.
