Ryan Sends Intel Director Letter Asking Him To Keep Classified Info From Clinton

Source: Talking Points Memo

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) wrote a letter to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Wednesday asking him not to brief Hillary Clinton with classified information during the presidential campaign.

In the letter provided to Politico, Ryan noted that the FBI Director James Comey said that the investigation into Clinton's email use found that the former secretary of state was "careless" with classified information.

"Given the FBI’s findings, denying Secretary Clinton access to classified information certainly constitutes appropriate sanctions," Ryan wrote. "There is no legal requirement for you to provide Secretary Clinton with classified information, and it would send the wrong signal to all those charged with safeguarding our nation’s secrets if you choose to provide her access to this information despite the FBI’s findings."

Ryan raised the issue earlier on Wednesday, telling reporters at a press conference that Clinton should not have access to classified briefings.

You are going to find out real soon that Madame President doesn't play well with the GOP. You are going to pine for the good old days when Obama wanted everyone to get along.

He does not answer to the Congress.

Quixotic, silly gesture by Ryan, hoping to keep the controversy roiling for partisan purposes.

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) is the United States government official – subject to the authority, direction, and control of the President – required by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004.

Some emails were classified, ..., er, ..., ah, two were, er, no, um, none were classified when she handled them, um, we, we the FBI mislabeled those two emails and our director of the FBI did FIB.

I have security clearances, and just because you have the clearance doesn't mean you have a "need to know". Neither candidate holds office. President Obama is still the president. He is the only one who can act on any classified information. Whoever wins the election will be given a full update on all the classified information they need to know, and until then, they don't need to know it.

There were no findings here except that no laws were broken by anyone. End of story.
The commentary was just that, commentary. Inappropriate partisan commentary.
