Poll: Clinton Keeps 5-Point Lead Over Trump Heading Into Conventions

Source: NBC News

On the eve of the GOP convention, Hillary Clinton maintains a five-point national lead over Donald Trump even after a period of negative news for the presumptive Democratic nominee, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Clinton leads the presumptive GOP nominee 46 percent to 41 percent in a poll that finds both candidates facing sizable disadvantages and challenges ahead of the party conventions which kick off Monday for the GOP in Cleveland and a week later for Democrats in Philadelphia.

Those numbers are unchanged from one month ago with the poll conducted after FBI Director James Comey strongly rebuked Clinton over her email practices even though he determined that she had not committed a crime. The poll was also conducted before Trump selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice-presidential running mate.

Clinton has the advantage among African Americans (84 to 7 percent), voters ages 18-29 (55 to 32 percent) and women (52 to 37 percent). The margin among Latinos will be released later on Sunday.

With drumpf's words and actions, her lead should be about 40 points.
But then, this is the media's way of sales.

The expectations, realistic by some standards, is that the RNC will be a terrible PR show because there is not a full-throated endorsement of Trump/Pence by the GOP as a party. Some of the news coming out of the convention will be negative. The illuminaries of the GOP will be missing, save for Paul Ryan, who has to sacrifice his sense of dignity (if he ever had any) to speak in support of the ticket. When Trump brags that former professional athletes and even Bobby Knight are on his bandwagon, we can anticipate the context that this will be a celebrity show for Trump's "fans", with Trump always on center stage-- not a serious convention that highlights any kind of political movement.

Also, the FBI & House GOPer's fiasco didn't "unchanged" the percentages? Say what???

Benghazi e-mail guilty untrustworthy guilty lying fest, a "wall" keep dark people out of America fest, and also so called "Christian" love fest (hate) I don't see any bounce but the numbers going the opposite direction.

there will be time for fact-checking by the media anchors and reporters. Since the RNC will last three days, my guess is that media will have fact-checkers in place and ready to respond to lies and inaccuracies during the speeches. And there will be plenty of both.

Another focal point will be the GOP's platform planks, which will horrify most of the people who will hear or read them.

So you're probably right in predicting a fall of Trump's numbers. At last, Trump's presentation of himself as a bona fide candidate will be under serious scrutiny, and Trump will have no control over any of it.

Sometimes I think I'm going to just have to stay out of election threads. Bar none, this has been the worst election cycle I've ever observed.
