Trump Campaign Denounces John Kasich in Ohio, Where Convention Begins
Source: NY Times
Donald J. Trumps chief adviser used the first day of the Republican National Convention on Monday to excoriate Gov. John R. Kasich for not endorsing Mr. Trump, touching off a remarkably bitter exchange between the campaign of the presumptive Republican nominee and advisers to Ohios popular Republican governor.
Addressing reporters at a breakfast on Monday, Paul Manafort, Mr. Trumps de facto campaign manager, accused Mr. Kasich of acting petulant for refusing to support Mr. Trump following the governors defeat in the Republicans presidential nominating process.
Hes embarrassing his party in Ohio, Mr. Manafort said of Mr. Kasich, calling the governors chief political strategist the culprit behind Mr. Kasichs strategy of not endorsing Mr. Trump. Negotiations broke down because John Weaver thinks that John Kasich will have a better chance to be president by not supporting Donald Trump.
Such a calculation, Mr. Manafort said, is a dumb, dumb, dumb thing.
Asked about the criticism, Mr. Weaver escalated the dispute. He not only mocked Mr. Trumps rambling and at-times awkward introduction of Mike Pence as his running mate on Saturday, but also pointedly brought up Mr. Manaforts history of working with contentious foreign leaders.

You would think that being in Ohio, a swing state, and the home of the convention, that Trump would just temper his rhetoric against a fellow Republican slightly. But, Trump's campaign is a reflection of the man at the top of the ticket, and the GOP base: mean, vindictive and hateful.

(21,819 posts)Grinding your perceived enemies into dust is not a good strategy.
Treat your defeated opponents with grace, respect, and leave them with a healthy dollop of dignity.
You will be amazed by how many of your former adversaries will come to hold you in high regard.
