WashPost will not retract 'outsourcing' story
By DYLAN BYERS | 6/27/12 3:33 PM EDT
The Washington Post will not retract their June 21 report about Bain Capital's investments in firms that specialized in outsourcing American jobs, POLITICO has learned.
"We are very confident in our reporting," Washington Post spokesperson Kris Coratti told POLITICO following a meeting between the Post's executive editor Marcus Brauchli and Mitt Romney campaign representatives, who had sought a retraction from the paper.
The Romney campaign would not discuss the meeting. "It was an off the record private meeting so I dont have anything for you on that," campaign press secretary Andrea Saul told POLITICO.

(14,524 posts)That is, if WaPo doesn't fold down the road. I NEVER underestimate what 1%ers are willing and quite capable of doing to get their way. These sociopaths do not play by rules and they play for keeps. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

(43,280 posts)GOP got duped when they went at Obama for attacks on wealth.
Obama wasn't going to attack wealth. Private property is perhaps
the most sacred American Value.
Now the GOP has shot their load and Dems are bludgeoning Mitts
the Outsourceress for his record. Voters and workers understand
the issue that way, they don't like overt attacks on wealth, but
they understand that many friends and relatives lost their jobs
when CEO's exported them.
Well played, Barack Obama! You are one shrewd man.

(14,549 posts)In journalism when a source wants to tell you something "off the record" it actually means that you can use it but you can't attribute it to them. For a presidential campaign there is no "off the record" -- they are the only entity that would ask for a retraction
Not only is Prince Romney out of touch but so is his campaign staff. They all seem to operate under the assumption that the regular rules don't apply to them and that reporting relevant facts is somehow unfair or out of bounds.

(44,577 posts)Mitt Romneys financial company, Bain Capital, invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India...
Bains foray into outsourcing began in 1993 when the private equity firm took a stake in Corporate Software Inc., or CSI, after helping to finance a $93 million buyout of the firm. CSI...provided a range of services including outsourcing of customer support. Initially, CSI employed U.S. workers to provide these services but by the mid-1990s was setting up call centers outside the country.
..Two years after Bain invested in the firm, CSI merged with another enterprise to form a new company called Stream International Inc...The corporate merger that created Stream also gave birth to another, related business known as Modus Media Inc., which specialized in helping companies outsource their manufacturing...
The Washington Post asserted that under Mitt Romney Bain Capital sent jobs overseas based on an analysis of 6 companies...(including)
CSI
Stream
Modus Media
...No call centers at CSI or then Stream Intl were moved offshore under Mitt Romney...
R-Money is comparing apples to oranges: unless he can prove that the companies in question were NOT in the business of outsourcing U.S. jobs -- even if they created U.S. jobs in the process -- WaPo has nothing to retract.
