Bolivia seizes 7.6 tonnes of cocaine destined for U.S. market

LA PAZ, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian police seized more than 7.5 tonnes of cocaine destined for the U.S. market and arrested three Bolivians, the Bolivian News Agency said on Monday.

The seizure dealt "a big blow to international drug trafficking," interior minister Carlos Romero said at a press conference.

The 7,580-kilogram cache of "pure cocaine," seized over the weekend, is worth 379 million U.S. dollars, Romero said.

Members of the Bolivian police force's special anti-narcotics unit (FELCN) intercepted the shipment of the white mineral ulexite which was about to ship via container first to Honduras and then eventually to the United States.

Police in Bolivia have seized more than seven tonnes of cocaine which they believe was destined for sale in the United States.

The drugs were hidden inside a cargo of mineral ore being carried in lorries along a remote mountain pass leading to Chile's sea ports. Three men were arrested, a government official said.

The haul has an estimated street value of $350m (£264m; €313m) in the US and came after a 10-month investigation.

In January, Bolivian anti-drug police found eight tonnes of cocaine hidden within another consignment of mineral ore.

I've lost friends to that drug. Yeah, they're still alive but they just wore me out.

I wouldn't mind having unrefined coca leaves, though. Those would be nice at this altitude.

I would definitely try the tea. I drink entirely too many caffeinated beverages but wouldn't snort caffeine straight up.

I knew people who fell in love with it the first time they tried it. Ditto heroin. I didn't get either one of them. I never did find my drug of choice.
