Worried GOP tells Trump: Get on message

Source: The Hill

Republicans worried that Donald Trump has squandered a critical stretch of the campaign are urging the candidate to return his focus to the issues that won him the Republican presidential nomination. Trump’s supporters say he too easily falls into traps set by Democrats and the media, and has allowed himself to be blown off course with fewer than 100 days to go before the election.

There is still time to turn things around, they say, but the candidate must stay true to his message of improving the lives of working-class people and rooting out government corruption and the influence of special interests if he’s going to reclaim momentum in the race.

“Hopefully, Donald Trump will soon recognize that if you take the bait every time, you’ll never have a chance to discuss the real issues,” Ben Carson, a former Republican presidential candidate who is now advising Trump, told The Hill.

“We have the upper hand on the economy, education .. and a whole host of things, there is no dearth of substantial issues to talk about,” Carson said. “There is no reason to engage with those who are trying to make this about something else. ... You pivot back to what’s important, you don’t have to take the bait. Learning that is perhaps one of the most important things.”

Banish Muslims -- check . . .

Build a wall (maybe higher than originally thought) -- check . . .

Insult women & belittle their concerns -- check . . .

Create and call opponents childish nicknames -- double check . . .

Pepper the airwaves with pitiable boasts of imagined fortitude & illusory resolve -- check again . . .

Shun discussions of substance in favor of bluster & balderdash -- check and mate . . .

There's not much else in the repertoire. Guess they should have vetted this act quite a bit better.

HIS message was -

1.) Ban all Muslims
2.) Build a wall along the entire U.S. southern border and deport "illegals"
3.) "Punish" women for having an abortion
4.) Rethink support for NATO members
5.) "Lock her up" (in reference to "Crooked Hillary&quot

As if Carson knows what "the message" is himself.... Trump is putting it out there. OWN it.
