One in eight US adults says they smoke marijuana, poll says

Source: http://www.cnn.com/

(CNN)The percentage of American adults who say they smoke weed has nearly doubled in three years, according to a new Gallup poll.

Among those who participated in the survey, one in eight -- 13% -- reported current marijuana use, and 43% said they have tried the drug, an increase from 38% in 2013. The percentage of pot smokers was 7% in the 2013 Gallup survey.
The poll results were based on telephone interviews with about 1,000 randomly chosen adults.

The Gallup poll results showed that age and religiosity affect how likely one is to use marijuana. One in five adults younger than 30 is a pot smoker: at least double the rates of each older age group. The rate of marijuana use among those who seldom or never attend a religious service is 14%, compared with 7% of those who go to church monthly and 2% of weekly churchgoers.
Residents in the West were more likely to tell Gallup that they smoke weed. The Gallup report said that the uptick in marijuana use could be a result of states' willingness to legalize marijuana.

nearly 20 years ago. Stupid to have to go to some doctor to get a card that says it's okay for you to use medicine that harms no one. It's safer than freaking ASPIRIN.

they are open seven days a week and late hours. And they are always busy.

I am 61 and everyone I know over 60 has been smoking over 40 years now. It has always been higher than they report because many people wont admit it even to a pollster.

But then, I am in Northern Calif and it has always been plentiful here.

31. I rarely drink
Tue Aug 9, 2016, 03:13 PM

And I never drink when I have to drive. Anything.

All my life I've never felt any need to feel intoxicated. Even in those times that I have drank, it was only for the taste and not to get drunk. If I did find myself getting tipsy, that's when I knew that I had enough to drink.

For example, I like the taste of liquor, so you might see me with a glass of Irish cream, but that's it. However, I can't stand the taste of beer and I'm not the biggest fan of dry wines. If it tastes good to me, I might try something, but I'm not going to let it get me drunk... In those rare occasions where I did get drunk when I was younger, I didn't like the feeling.

I've been drunk fewer times that I can count on one hand. Those times when I was in Korea mostly.

Getting drunk or high has never been a concern for me. I never felt any desire to use intoxicants to alter my own consciousness. I was never attracted to narcotics of any kind. Believe it or not, I've never been partial to pain meds either, when given to me after procedures. Lucky to have avoided the pain.

Sure, as far as getting high or drunk, it's not my place to judge others and everyone's free to do that as they will, I respect their choices. But for myself, that's never been my bag.

By the way, I'm a very reliable designated driver.

I've been around stoners, as well as casual users, through the years and most wouldn't have told a stranger on the phone anything at all.

The increase in the poll might just be an indicator of pot being more socially acceptable and decriminalized.

one thing they overlook is the relaxational user, not the recreational or medicinal. like, instead of a glass of scotch after work, a puff or two. But not as a recreation in itself. or a puff before bed. i would think at such a low level of usage, legality makes a big difference. not sure i would want to switch from my scotch, tho
