Trump NY Co-Chair Doubles Down: Khan Is A Disgrace To His Son's Memory

Source: Talking Points Memo

Carl Paladino, the co-chair for Donald Trump’s campaign in New York, said that Khizr Khan's remarks at the Democratic National Convention demonstrated a "lack of character and backbone" that dishonored his son, a Muslim-American soldier killed in combat.

In a Sunday email to BuzzFeed News, Paladino slammed Khan for his "lack of objectivity and submission to Hillary’s hideous effort to compel him to disgrace the memory of his son." He also questioned Khan's motivations, saying that Clinton's staff "obviously wrote the speech."

"She even bought him the pocket constitution," Paladino claimed, "which he probably never read but also returned to the staff after the speech." Paladino went on to accuse Khan of "advocating for Islamist terrorists" and communicating "with terrorist individuals and organizations," implying that this motivated Khan's remarks.

He did not provide evidence to support either claim.

I see this as the same playbook they used against Cindy Sheehan.

Claim the parents are going against the wishes of the dead soldiers by criticizing Republican Chickenhawks.

They'll call the parents traitors and claim they are professional protesters and are members of some radical group tied to communists,.....and they're gay,...and have cooties.

he passes them out to guests.

Paladino deserves a good kick in the teeth.

Some of their neighbors knew Mr. Khan liked to carry a $1 pocket Constitution around with him. In the Khan home, a stack of them always lay at the ready. Guests showed up and they were handed one, in the way other hosts might distribute a party favor. Mr. Khan wanted it to stimulate a conversation about liberty, a cherished topic of his. He liked to point out that he lives nearly in the shadow of Monticello, home of one of his heroes, Thomas Jefferson. Mrs. Khan liked to say, “We need Thomas Jefferson.”

...meaning, you can take someone to court over them? Trump always hedges such slander: "He might be part of the Muslim brotherhood, for all I know. You tell me..." That's Trump's modus--always innuendo so he's not liable. But this sounds like it could be taken to court as actual slander.

I just saw Manafort on CNN denying that he's even seen or heard anything about N.Y. Trump campaign manager Paladino attacking the Gold Star family again. The reporter on 'State of the Union' pushed back by finishing the interview with telling Manafort 'your NY Trump campaign manager is attacking a Gold Star family.' Like he was saying 'oh, you don't know? Well, now you know.'

We exchanged a couple of emails.

One on one, he was the same guy we all saw at the convention - just a nice, decent person who cares about the country and suffered a great loss. I do not think it was an act.

That was his own copy of constitution.

Like Trump, the claims by Paladino are asinine.

The evil of racists like Donald Trump

But he's also received a lot of outpouring of praise. Here's a bunch of what I said:

"....
I’d humbly suggest that it wasn’t all luck. Beyond what the United States offered, your son had two wonderful parents. The whole world saw that at the DNC. And his brave actions of concern for the safety of others are characteristics along with empathy that his parents possess amply and deeply.

It is very tragic and sad that we have lost your son. But he too was a lucky man to have two wonderful, loving parents like you and your wife for the time he was living. And America and the world have been blessed with your story because it exposes more than anything else I’ve seen, the serious flaws in Donald Trump’s character that make him unfit for office for all to see. Look at the poll numbers since your speech at the DNC. You may have singlehandedly effectively ended his campaign – something 16 GOP candidates couldn’t do.

Your son would be very proud of his parents who turned his horrible, tragic loss to save others into something that looks like it will help save the whole world from a Donald Trump presidency ... and in doing so, may have saved millions of lives – including more American soldiers. At the very least, millions in this world are going to sleep better because of the peace of mind you, you wife and son have given them. Your son did not die in vain and he will not be forgotten. You have put him in America’s history books – where he belongs.

I know at times you will be subjected to the ignorant hate of Donald Trump’s followers for what you have tried to do. I am so sorry we have not gotten past that in our society yet. But your words and actions will also help on that front. Just remember that I am just one of many, many people who you reached and uplifted."

He seemed to appreciate that.

and couldn't possibly have written his own speech, which he delivered from memory without a teleprompter.

And couldn't possibly know our laws well enough to raise a son who was also passionate about them.

I grew up around New Yorkers like Paladino and still know more than a few. They are impenetrably racist and hate-filled. They are miserable.

Mon Aug 15, 2016, 01:07 PM

Whenever something went badly for Saddam he was sure to send the Republican Guard up to beat the shit out of the Kurds. Whenever something goes bad for Donald Trump he sends out a couple of minions to beat on Humayan Khan's parents. However, Mr. and Mrs. Khan are not the doormats the Kurds were; Khizr gives Trump better than Trump is trying to give him and Mrs. Khan is no slouch either.

Wed Aug 17, 2016, 03:31 PM
Aug 2016

how could these people believe the distortions they spout day after day?

The answer is this: Trump lives in his own kingdom. His word is law. No
one ever questions him. He believes everything he says and knows his
word is good to himself and his underlings.

He has come to believe the election will turn on credibility. He thinks his
word will be accepted at face value, no questions asked. Powerful is the
ruler with this type of credibility. But that credibility must be accepted by
the public. Therein lies the problem for Trump. Citizens are skeptical,
consumers are not. He's trying to transfer the credibility of one kingdom
to another realm. And people aren't buying what he and his surrogates are
saying, least of all about Hillary Clinton.
