Multiple people have been abducted from an upscale restaurant in the popular beach resort of Puerto Vallarta, according to Mexican authorities.

Two SUVs carrying hooded gunmen arrived around 1am at the restaurant, which is located on the city’s main boulevard.

They reportedly asked diners to drop to the ground and no gunfire was heard.

As many as 16 people have been taken, but the exact number has not been confirmed.

One of the reasons I stopped working in western Mexico and moved to the safe, calmer provincial city of Merida. I had the willies the whole time I was in Guadalajara last year. And I know that city like the back of my hand.

Good enough for me.

A couple of years ago a customer proudly showed off her scrapbook of their trip to Mexico. There was a photo of a beach with Police carrying automatic weapons. I asked about it and she just dismissed it as if it were the norm.

Crossed anywhere in Mexico off my list to visit.

I hope that these abductees are well, but my gut tells me that they won't be for long.

El Chapo's son presumed kidnapped with six other men at Mexico resort

The son of imprisoned drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán may be among the half-dozen men abducted by a squad of gunmen at a restaurant in the Mexican beach resort of Puerto Vallarta, according to authorities.

Authorities in the western state of Jalisco, where Puerto Vallarta is located, earlier said that 10 to 12 men had been kidnapped from the upscale restaurant, based on the confused nature of the evidence at the crime scene. Some women who were with the abducted men at the restaurant weren’t taken, and one person who had been dining with the group left just moments before the abduction.

But prosecutors later clarified in a statement that six men were abducted by a squad of seven armed assailants.

Jalisco attorney general Eduardo Almaguer told Radio Formula that “it is presumed”, though not yet certain, that Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán was among the kidnapped men.
