Attorney general's defense: My top aides leaked files, lied

Maryclaire Dale, Associated Press

A lawyer for the state's attorney general in closing arguments on Monday blamed her former top aides for a leak of grand jury material that found its way to a newspaper and attacked a rival prosecutor.

Democrat Kathleen Kane wanted the public to know her predecessor had failed to prosecute a case involving an NAACP official, but she never authorized the leak of secret criminal files, said her lawyer, Seth Farber.

Instead, he said, Kane's chief deputy, Adrian King, abused his power when he sent the files to a reporter through Kane's political consultant. King and the consultant, Josh Morrow, testified against Kane last week.

Morrow, who had a grant of immunity, said he and Kane devised a cover-up story that framed King for the leak. He acknowledged telling the lie to a grand jury.

Since no where in your clip was the state listed and the clip is from the Houston {Texas} Chronicle.

This is a standard annoyance I have - so often there is no information provided in the clips provided that tell where the event took place. Sorry to pick on your thread, Judi Lynn. It happens in many others' threads, too.

Without geographical location, posts are worthless. The posters are rude and uncaring.

But sometimes in meeting all the requirements of posting stories here, essential details get lost. Even if a location is included it can be confusing when towns of the same name can be in different states. Plus, news sources don't always include the location in the byline anymore. I've posted stories from small town papers that neglect to include that information.

Judi Lynn does a great job of providing interesting and relevant news stories so I don't want her to think I don't appreciate what she has done (assuming Judi Lynn is female - if not, I apologize).
